NTSB Investigations: What Legal Professionals Need to Know will take place July 16–17, and Aircraft Accident Investigation will be held September 14–25.

NTSB issues safety alerts for pilots and mechanics.

NTSB issued 4 Safety Alerts highlighting safety issues identified in several recent accident investigations. Three alerts are geared towards general aviation pilots and address mountain flying skills and survival equipment; transition training before flying unfamiliar aircraft; and performing thorough preflight checks on aircraft that have just received flight control or trim system maintenance. Safety Alert aimed at mechanics discusses flight control and trim system misrigging problems.

NTSB Calls for Improvements to flammable liquid rail tank cars.

NTSB issued 4 urgent recommendations regarding production of robust, fire-resistant rail cars used to safely carry such flammable liquids as crude oil and ethanol. Among said recommendations was aggressive scheduling for replacing/retrofitting current rail car fleet with better thermal protection against heat from fires and increasing pressure relief device capacity. Noting increasing crude oil rail traffic, NTSB's Christopher A. Hart said, "We can’t wait a decade for safer rail cars."

T. Bella Dinh-Zarr, PhD, MPH, became a board member on March 23, 2015, and was designated as vice chairman by President Obama. Prior to her appointment to the NTSB, Vice Chairman Dinh-Zarr served as Director of the U.S. Office of the FIA Foundation, an international philanthropy dedicated to promoting safe and sustainable transportation. Before that she served as North American Director of Make Roads Safe – The Campaign for Global Road Safety.
