The postholder will report to the Head of the Propulsion Engineering Section and undertake tasks assigned by him on technical support activities for projects and on monitoring of ESA Research Development RD contracts. In the frame of his duties, the incumbent shall undertake assignments, as delegated to and in coordination with the management, for the following tasks providing expert technical support and consultancy in propulsion for launchers liquid propulsion, including storable and cryogenic technologies, and solid propulsion and spacecraft different chemical propulsion technologies to the Agencys project teams responsible for the development of launchers and spacecraft, throughout all project phases contributing to the preparation of work plans in the areas of launcher and spacecraft propulsion in the Agencys technological programmes, with a particular contribution expected on systems and new propulsion aspects preparing and technically managing Agency contracts for studies, experimental investigations and engineering developments in space propulsion. Experience and Education Applicants for this post should have a university degree or equivalent qualification in aerospace or mechanical engineering, with emphasis in space propulsion related subjects. Candidates must have several years of experience in the design and development of chemical propulsion systems and components for launcher andor spacecraft applications. Knowledge and experience in electric propulsion is an asset. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team objectives. In addition, candidates should have good organisational and analytical skills, as well as a proactive attitude towards solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
