We are currently looking for a Space Weather Space Segment Engineer to work in Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Provide space segment related expert inputs for the SW instrumentation and SW missions and Instrument and System Requirements Documents updates. Support the maintaining and updating S2P system requirements and mission requirements data bases and their dependencies with the appropriate software tools. Provide inputs for Space Segment related S2PSW Segment Development Roadmap reviews. Provide expert support to the definition of the SW Space Segment architectural designs. Provide technical support for development, testing and acceptancevalidation of space segment related applications and software delivered by the S2P GS team to SW Segment. Support preparation of the S2P work as a space segment expert. Support reviews for the S2P space segment activities as appointed by the WP Manager. Support organisation of SW Segment public relation events as appointed by the Head of SW Office. Provide expert support to the definition of space weather related international standards. Provide a consolidated monthly progress report of the progress of all activities undertaken within frame of the SWSSE WPs. Support preparation of the work specification of new S2P space segment activities as a space segment system engineering satellite and ground segment expert. Support the preparation of upcoming instrument and satellite mission studies and procurements including in particular the definition of the system requirements and related aspects. Within the space system studies and throughout the mission phases perform the corresponding monitoring and evolution of the system and interface requirements. Establish and maintain the inventories of mission system requirements with a tracing towards related parent and daughter requirements by using DOORS. Monitor the technical work in the satellite and instrument development and procurement activities all mission Phases and where agreed in coordination with and supported by DTEC. Technical support for instrument and satellite mission reviews including reviews of the documentation with a focus on the interface definitions and the system related aspects. Attend progress meetings with the internalexternal development teams. Review the deliverables from industrial activities. Perform any other tasks that are needed to consolidate the deliverables from the industrial activities. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory As minimum a M.Sc. or equivalent academic degree in spaceflight relevant engineering disciplines or in physics. Minimum of 5 years of working experience covering the two following domains space systems engineering or space instrument engineering. Practical experience in implementing spaceflight instrumentation or satellite missions including flight hardware implementation. Experience in satellite or instrument system engineering and related ESA standards. Working experience in international environment or with international Agencies. Experience in participating industry contracts in domain of space engineering. Experience in participating in international industry contracts with a clearly defined project management or lead engineering responsibility. We are looking for a candidate to investigate, develop, test, qualify and initialise manufacture of a lowcost deepspace reaction control actuation subsystem. You will be an instrumental member of an exciting new team building out a full avionics stack product specifically designed for the needs of small spacecraft operating throughout the inner Solar System. The operation is new, based in Luxembourg as a spinoff of Deep Space Industries and Bradford Space Netherlands. Our team here will be kept small 10 people and will focus on the single objective of building a reliable, performing, and massoptimised flight avionics system for upcoming deepspace smallsats and landers. You would conduct a feasibility study in to, then lead development and qualification of, a novel COTS system to enable thrusterbased attitude control in environments where traditional magnetic torqueing is not possible. The operation will blend of the responsible, highquality engineering practices of traditional aerospace engineering while implementing the rapid iterative development methods and dynamic workplace culture of a NewSpace style startup. Essential skills A background in propulsion or propellant management engineering Strong knowledge of attitude control systems, particularly reaction thrustbased ones Practical experience fluidic systems design, assembly, and hardware testing Proficient English language skills A willingness and ability to take ownership of a product from concept to delivery Strongly valued Familiarity with existing spacecraft attitude control systems and typical topologies Working knowledge of commercially available, small scale fluid components valves etc. Understanding of the space environment and its effects Understanding of space hardware quality standards and the qualification process Experience with monopropellants hot and cold Working knowledge of electronics and fluidic components driver circuits Competences in spacecraft attitude control systems, pointing budgets, sensors or algorithms Buildfortest design, and hardware test campaign development execution Buildformanufacture design experience Ability to build and modify fluid management systems Practical experience running test campaigns TVAC, vibration, radiation etc Relevant CAD experience for mechanical design Solidworks, NX etc A love of bulletpoint lists Key responsibilities Investigate, design, optimise, test and qualify a spacecraft reaction control system for deep space missions Contribute to overall avionics product design and ensure subsystem interoperability Develop and deploy automated test methods and equipment Setup manufacturing processes and procedures Deliver to manufacturing stage, a performing product Setup and manage a development workshop and needed tooling What we can offer in return We offer you the chance to develop a completely new type of reaction control system that will help enable a new class of deepspace missions.
