This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a Consultant with at least 3 years experience engineering Ground Segment data processing elements for earth observation satellite missions, including requirements specification, definition of interfaces, architecture and testing concepts, as well as involvement in developing processing infrastructure for Level 1 and Level 2 data processing, Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. The successful candidate will be part of the clients Data Processing Systems and Applications Group assisting in the specification, preliminary design, procurement, integration, testing and transfer to operations of Data Processing elements for future programmes under development, and the maintenance and evolution of data processing systems and applications for existing programmes. Mission The Key Person will be part of the HSIRL2 team. This team is responsible for the scientific development, maintenance, validation and routine monitoring of hyperspectral infrared atmospheric sounding products in support of the development and operations of EUMETSATs geostationary and polar orbiting systems. The Key Person shall contribute to the continued improvement of current operational and prototype products, considering opportunities and new requirements from the user community. Heshe shall support the implementation, the evaluation and the monitoring of these algorithms. The Key Person shall have at least 3 years of experience in the field of scientific computing. Specifically, the Key Person shall have experience and skills in Numerical algorithms Development and testing of complex scientific software Handling and processing of big amounts of data Object oriented techniques for scientific computing Software tools for revision control Very good skills in a high level programming language, preferably C Advanced use of data analysis and visualisation with tools like Perl Data Language PDL, Matlab, IDL or equivalent preferably with satellite data Experience in some of the following areas is expected Inverse problems Principal component analysis Further mathematical modelling techniques nonlinear optimization, regression, neural networks, Kalman filters, etc. Familiarity with satellite data, preferably from IASI or other hyperspectral infrared instruments Use of radiative transfer models Retrieval of atmospheric parameters from infrared andor microwave radiances Data formats and libraries such as HDF5 and NetCDF Software testing Validation and visualization of satellite products Software libraries for numerical linear algebra and similar subroutines Experience with further programming relevant languages and tools such as Perl, Python, Java, etc. Multithreads programming Fluency in English oral and written is mandatory.
