Home sales in the Merrimack Valley posted solid gains in 2015, as strong buyer activity combined with light inventories pushed prices up, according to a report from the Northeast Association of Realtors. NEAR President Linda Kody, president of Kody & Company Inc. in North Andover, said the results were comparable to those of the state as a whole.

U.S. pending home sales inch up in December

The number of people signing contracts to purchase homes managed to inch up last month, thanks to unseasonably warm weather in the Northeast. The National Association of Realtors said Thursday that its seasonally adjusted pending home sales index crept up 0.1 percent to 106.8. Signed contracts jumped 6.1 percent in the Northeast, while they declined in the other three major U.S. regions.

Pending home sales were almost flat in December

Economists had estimated that pending home sales rose 0.9% according to Bloomberg, after a 1.1% decline in the prior period. Pending sales, which measure contract signings, were held back by "the stock market's sizeable losses" this year and the slowdown in manufacturing according to Lawrence Yun, chief economist of the National Association of Realtors which releases the monthly report.
