An environmental group has petitioned the California Coastal Commission to stop plans that may lead to the resumption of controversial fracking operations at the oil islands off the Long Beach shoreline. The state's Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources granted permits for fracking work at eight existing offshore oil wells and five new ones, according to agency spokesman Don Drysdale.
