Ground Segment System Engineer

Within the Ground Segment System Engineering GSSE Competence Area of the System Engineering and Projects SEP Division, the Ground Segment System Engineer will be responsible for providing coordinated system engineering activities aimed at maintaining, evolving and testing ground segment systems for EUMETSAT missions. This includes coordination with different teams within EUMETSAT and with external partners. DUTIES Provide coordinated engineering support required to maintain operational ground systems and upgrade these in response to evolving requirements, including maintenance of system level documentation and architectural models Analyse specifications and impacts on system architecture from evolutions or major upgrades to the operational ground systems, in order to ensure overall system coherence Define the system IVV testing approach for evolutions or major upgrades, and coordinateimplement testing, including support to the installation and integration of new components Support coordination with external partners e.g. ESA, NOAA, CNES, ECMWF on ground segment engineering activities, regarding interfacing elements Perform technology and trend analysis on enterprise architectures, emerging technologies and assess their implications for EUMETSAT systems and interfaces with external partners Support the transition of newly developed ground segments into Operations at system level, including support during the installation, integration, verification and validation testing phases. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Solid experience in engineering, IVV and maintenance of ground segment systems and infrastructure in a 247 environment Proven experience in coordinatingmanaging ground segment system engineering services or teams involved in supporting maintenance and operations of satellite systems Proficiency and experience in the definition and implementation of engineering processes for sustaining, maintaining and evolving operational ground systems Knowledge of relevant system engineering standards and of methods for requirementsspecification management and verification, with experience in the use of related tools Strong timemanagement, planning, analysis and presentation skills, coupled with a highdegree of interpersonal awareness and experience working as part of team University Degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The initial contract will be of 4 years duration, with subsequent 5year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of followup contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A2A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 5,612 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable based on skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year. Responsibilities Duties The main duties of the role will include Preparing and conducting radiation tests campaigns including developing test setup and subsequent data analysis, with emphasis on Total Ionising Dose TID, Displacement Damage DD and Single Event Effect SEE on EEE components, test structures and materials in support of Agencys projects, studies, evaluation, qualification or radiation hardening activities Defining relevant radiation studies, experimental and development activities also including in flight component radiation characterization experiments to initiate and manage such activities implemented under ESA contracts Supporting the sections standardisation activities, particularly those involving general Radiation Hardness Assurance procedures, irradiation test guidelines SEE, TID and Displacement Damage, modelling and simulation issues. Preferably Radiation Worker with radiation test experience Essential Skills Substantial experience in the field of radiation effects on semiconductor components and all aspects of irradiation testing. Experience with SEE rate prediction tools and have sufficient knowledge of the space environment to correctly employ these tools. Familiarity with shielding analysis tools sectoring and 3D MonteCarlo based, device physics simulation tools, modern programming techniques, modelling and simulation of radiation effects on EEE components for radiation hardening and software engineering practices. Basic knowledge of component engineering and product assurance principles and modelling simulation of radiation effects on EEE components for radiation hardening.
