RF Instrument Data Processing Engineer

Position Reference 937 On behalf of ESA, we are currently looking for a RF Instrument Data Processing Engineer to work in its Site ESTEC in the city of Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Design, development and performance evaluation and characterization of control, data and signal processing units for Radio Frequency payloads and instruments. Definition, design, development, performance evaluation and verification of data and signal processing functions and algorithms via simulation techniques e.g. Matlab, Python, prototyping SW. Design, verification and validation of payload data and signal processing chains. Hardware software optimization and implementation of payload data processing functions on processors e.g. uCuP, DSP, GPU, AI accelerators and FPGA e.g. MPSoC, RfSoC based platforms. Radio Frequency payloads instruments related ASICs and device specification validation Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory PhD or Masters degree in Engineering from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent, with at least 4 years of relevant working experience. Extensive knowledge in onboard data and signal processing techniques. Extensive knowledge in signal quality and onboard payload data processing functions for RF remote sensing and Telecom payloads. Extensive knowledge in simulation of signal processing functions Matlab, Python, C, etc. Knowledge in the design, training and validation of machine learning techniques not limited to deep learning for tasks such as prediction, classification, semantic segmentation, object detection, etc. Familiarity with telecom payload processors, synthetic aperture radar, radar altimetry and radio frequency interference mitigation coverage of more than one of the topics will be a strong asset. Familiarity with payload data and signal processing onboard systems architectures. Familiarity with processing devices and onboard electronics design related to data acquisition and processing functions. Familiarity with procurement of units, subsystems integration and testing. Ability to work in an autonomous manner, in particular when providing support to projects with high time allocations and this in coordination with the line manager. Job Description We are looking for an Onboard Computer Data Systems Engineer to support our client ESTEC. You will join a team that supports the Galileo 2nd Generation satellite Project G2B satellite. You will be responsible for the definition, implementation and procurement of the G2B spacecraft Avionics subsystems including the data handling subsystem DHS, Attitude and Orbit Control Systems AOCS and Electrical Propulsion Subsystem EPS. SPECIFIC TASKS The design, development and test of spacecraft power systems for onboard applications. This work encompasses the definition of centralised power systems having overall power levels up to 25 kilowatts, together with their interfaces with respect to solar arrays and batteries, the attendant power distributionprotection equipment and pyrotechnic activation functions. Detailed tasks include the overall system design necessary for the development of fault tolerant power control and distribution concepts, the detailed design of the power regulators and the identificationuse of tools and methods for ensuring dependable design and verification. The development of simulation blocks for system analysis batteries, solar cells arrays, power control and distribution units useful for the independent evaluation of critical power and energy budgets in support to running projects of the Agency. Support to laboratory activities concerning design and development or verification of circuits for power management and distribution solar array and battery conversion electronics, power distribution and protection electronics, power conversion for generic and specific purposes, including redundancy and protections. Active involvement in critical RD activities support by simulation, worst case analysis and laboratory testing of the overall system or of the most critical subunits. Assisting to the development and validation of worst case simulation blocks for electrical equipment analysis converters, shunt regulators, current limiters, protections, critical telemetry or telecommand functions useful for the independent check of the most critical equipment functionality and performances, in support to all programmes reviews where the power conditioning section is involved. The development and verification of high voltage design technologies and associated power converters, suitable for application as Electronic Power Conditioners EPCs for specialised. REQUIREMENTS Masters degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Physics. PhD degree will be an asset. Proven experience in Digital Control of power converters. Proven experience in FPGA and microcontroller programming. Proven experience in the design of power converters with GaN semiconductors. Proven experience on space power conversion systems. Electrical power processing background, together with a good experience of digital and analogue electronics and control theory. Proven experience in the domain of power conditioning electronics together, with hands on knowledge of the circuit design of such systems. Experience in the development of computer models, especially with SPICEbased simulators. Knowledge and the experience on High Voltage power conditioning for space application constitute an asset.
