NV Energy says failure of equipment in the agency's substation is to blame for a morning power outage affecting about 9,800 customers at one time, including many in southwest Las Vegas. Agency spokeswoman Jennifer Schuricht said that at about 9:45 a.m. the number of outages had reached 9,800.

Southern California Edison officials confirmed a maintenance power outage is scheduled for Baker from 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, but could not confirm a report of a total power outage for the entire High Desert town. Edison representative Caroline Aoyagi said utility employees are doing substation work and the power outage is for maintenance and repair.

National Grid says a power outage affecting Riverside Center and surrounding North Utica area should be fixed by 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. As of this writing, several stores in the Riverside Center are without power including Burlington Coat Factory and BJ's Wholesale Club.
