GALILEO Space Operations Systems Engineer

This is an opportunity for an experienced Engineer to work in the domain of satellite operations. The engineer will be assigned to the System and Flight Operations Unit of the Galileo Operations Procurement Service Division and will report to the Head of System and Flight Operations Section. The position is unlimited and fulltime. The Engineer will work fully on customer side in ESTEC, Netherlands. Submission deadline for applicants will be 30.10.2015. Starting date of the position will be 01.01.2016. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Support the evaluation and execution of all operations activities executed by the Galileo Operations Contractor, ensuring the preparation and execution of operations and plans Participate to the spacecraft anomaly review boards, supporting the evaluation of any recovery action required Support the interfacing to the Galileo Space Segment for the deployment of new OBSW versions and the procurement of new spacecraft batches Define the System Level Operational concepts for the Galileo Second Generation for the infrastructure and associated External Interfaces with External Entities for the different project phases and related system builds Collaborate in coordinating the interaction between the operations team and the G2G system design team ensuring the coherency of the system design with the Galileo Second Generation Operations Concepts Define the operation requirements applicable to the design, development and validation of the system operations for the Galileo Second Generation, ensuring coherency with the deployment of new System Builds Interface with ESA specialists regarding technical matters, including spacecraft and segment design and operations documentation Maintain and upgrade all the G2G Operations project documentation, including MOCD, OSRD and Operational documents Participate on Galileo G2G related reviews panels, evaluations boards as required. QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE University degree or equivalent education in Electric or Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering. Significant experience in position for operations engineering, operations preparation and execution, with some experience in management tasks. A proven experience in in a commercialindustrial environment is required. Experience related to developments in the Galileo project GIOVE, IOV, FOC will be considered an asset In view of the complex interaction with numerous entities, candidates should have good communication skills and the capability to manage complex and potentially stressful tasks. Good practical and analytical skills are also required. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Significant experience in position for operations engineering, operations preparation and execution Familiar with Spacecraft and Ground Segment subsystem knowledge Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Able to carry on activities and interact in a complex teamwork environment. Software Engineer Java for Space Systems Bristol 26 32k A leading European Space Division that delivers a range of projects to its customers, such as the European Space Agency, spanning large scale system developments used to operate satellites to small technology studies involving prototypes. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, capable and hardworking engineer to join there development team in Bristol as a Java software developer. This role will include responsibility for implementation of software components in a larger system using Java and customer support for current systems software. We are recruiting for a development phase of a new project that is delivering a mission critical system to operate a fleet of satellites. Initially this role will be under the guidance of the project managers, but over time we expect the successful candidate to grow and take on more responsibility within the Division. The role will generally involve all aspects of the standard software lifecycle Working as part of the team to implement new functionality Performing software builds and testing of the software Updating documentation e.g. user manuals, test documentation as needed Analysis and corrective maintenance of software anomalies Interfacing with the customer and users to discuss problems and changes as needed Travel to the customer site as required to assist with testing, provide training or support Essential skills The candidate must have a software engineering background with development experience in Java. An understanding and appreciation of good software development practices is essential, including the use of source code management systems and project standardsguidelines. The candidate must be able to work in a collaborative team environment. It is expected that the role will include some customer interaction, so the successful candidate will be fluent in English and confident in their role in representing the company.
