The Engineer shall work as a member of the Image Navigation and Registration Team of INRC, and in close collaboration with the Instrument Functional Chain Engineering teams of the GEO division, and support the analysis and review of INR architectures, as well as prototyping, and testing of the INR data processing as part of the Level 1 data processing. This requires a sound understanding of the impact of instrument and platform characteristics on the geometrical quality of the acquired datasets and groundbased algorithms for a correction or compensation, in particular algorithms related to INR estimation, LineofSight modelling, geolocation, and rectification. The support of prototyping of INR processing algorithms and their subsequent assessment is a significant part of the consultancy. The latter implies also an understanding of the geometrical Level 1 image quality assessment, in particular in terms of navigation and registration errors. Prototyping aspects include as well the generation of suitable test and proxy data sets. Depending on the programme phase for which support is provided, participation in verification and validation test activities will be significant. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Engineer shall have the following mandatory skills and experience An extensive theoretical knowledge of Level 1 data processing algorithms for Image Navigation and Registration, and geometric correction Handson experience in the design and implementation of estimation filters e.g. Kalman or Leastsquare filters, preferably in an Image Navigation and Registration application context A sound experience in the specification, prototyping, implementation, verification and validation of complex, realtime Level 1 data processing systems for imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft A thorough understanding of the interaction between instrumentplatform characteristics and processing impact, including product quality Experience in the development of INR processing systems preferable for large multiinstrument operational space programmes The ability o To work effectively in small teams o To work autonomously without close supervision o To work to tight deadlines under changing conditions o To analyse complex problems, distinguishing between critical and less critical information, and to synthesise and clearly present the results of such analyses. Handson expertise in at least one coding language, preferable CC, and with a tool to support of algorithm software development and rapid prototyping, e.g. MATLAB, IDL, Python The following skills and experience will be considered advantageous Some familiarity with UNIXLINUX systems Knowledge of imaging andor sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft. The Engineer shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Fluency in English is mandatory and a working knowledge of French would be an advantage, together with good communication skills.
