Position Reference 684 We are currently looking for a System Engineer that would be based in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. HeShe will provide systemengineering expertise services for the MMEs upgrades within EUMETSAT. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. At least 5 years of working experience in the analysis and generation of requirements, development, testing, operations and maintenance of ground segments. Experience in the field of systems engineering and architectural design for ground segment systems. Capability to prepare and maintain services specifications. Capability to prepare system requirements and design documents, and to perform systemlevel analyses for complex satellitebased systems. Experience in writing technical requirements. Experience in interface management and familiarity with mechanisms and tools for detailed interface definition. Capability to prepare and maintain ICDs Interface Control Documents. Knowledge of space and ground system engineering processes, and system and software lifecycles and standards. Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS. High degree of working autonomy. Problem solving and good analytical skills. High degree of interpersonal awareness. Experience in working as part of a multicultural team. Ability to perform regular e.g. weekly, context switch. Practical knowledge in servicebased approach for defining services specifications e.g. ITIL. Experience in one or more of the following activities Integration, Verification and Validation IVV of complex systems. Testing coordination and execution and verification activities. Data distribution and dissemination. Ground Segment Monitoring. Archive systems. Computer systems, Network systems and IT Security. The following skills would be highly desirable Practical knowledge in toolbased requirements management e.g. IBM DOORs. Practical knowledge in Model Based System Engineering e.g. Enterprise Architect. Practical knowledge in the definition and formalization of interfaces between complex systems. The Instrument Functional Chain Team IFCT activities are fully embedded in the EPSSG System Team and follow the same life cycle. An Instrument Functional Chain has been established for each instrument onboard of the MetopSG platforms mainly composed by Platform, Instruments, Operational Processors and CalVal facility. The main objective of IFCT activities is the management of endtoend aspects of the Instrument Functional Chains to ensure that the level 1 and level 2 products generated by the EPSSG System meet the user needs. To cover the endtoend aspects of an Instrument Chains an interdisciplinary expertise is needed which can only be provided by a group of people with knowledge in different areas. The IFCT is responsible to follow up the development, verification and validation of the Instrument Functional Chains from phase B up to phase E1 that includes the System InOrbit Validation SIOV and commissioning activities. Specifically the Phase D from System CDR to Launch involves several key activities leading up to the System Integration, Verification and Validation Review SIVVR, which is itself an input to the Launch and Operations Readiness Review LORR. Profile Mandatory skills and relevant experience in University degree or equivalent in experience in a relevant discipline Experience in the field of engineering of space andor ground systems, in the area of LowEarth Orbiting satellites including endtoend data acquisition and processing Experience in verifying instrument data processing systems Experience in development of test data sets, test tools or instrument data processor prototypes Experience in specification of operational products for earth observation missions Experience in requirementsbased design, development and verification process of polar satellite systems following the ECSS standards and using DOORS Knowledge of relevant spaceborne observation instruments EPSSG satellites will embark sounders and imagers from the ultraviolet to the microwave range, a scatterometer and a radiooccultation instrument Additional skills and experience considering as an added value Proven experience in follow up preparation of algorithms processing specification and associated test data, including maintenance of the baseline Knowledge of the EPSSG Instruments, specification of Instrument Source Packets and algorithms to process them up to level 1 Knowledge of the EPSSG Product content and specification Knowledge of the EPSSG processing algorithms and specification Knowledge of the ESPSG System and operational processors design Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages and programmingscripting skills in other coding languages such as Python Java Perl etc. Familiarity with ModelBased Systems Engineering tools, specifically CORE 9 from Vitech Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills are essential Ability to recognise opportunities for improvements in areas of work and implement appropriate solutions is highly desirable Ability to fulfil the assigned tasks with minimum supervision Have a systematic approach to work Ability to plan the work and cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks.
