(Telecompaper) BT Group has announced reported revenue of GBP 23.43 billion for the year to 31 March, down 1 percent from a year earlier, with adjusted revenue down 1 percent to GBP 23.46 billion. The company decided to hold the dividend for 2018/2019 unchanged at 15.4p per share, leading to a final dividend of 10.78p per share.

Telefonica to test 5G FWA as alternative to fibre in Vigo

(Telecompaper) Telefonica will be testing the viability of using 5G fixed wireless access technology as an alternative to fibre as part of its recently-announced 5G pilot projects in Galicia, reports ADSL Zone. The tests will be conducted in underserved rural areas of the Vigo province with a view to expanding the company's network and reducing the digital divide. Telefonica already offers convergent packages including TV and 20Mbps broadband access via 3G and 4G networks but will be using the 3.5 and 26GHz bands to bring its Movistar Fusion Radio service to remote parts of Vigo during the trials, said the report.

(Telecompaper) Apart from some minor M&A, last week's news mainly related to first quarter earnings reports. The Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms Services was down 0.4 percent for the week, versus a 0.1 percent gain for the EuroStoxx 50 index. Altice Europe (+8.9%) was the winner and Gamma Communications (-4.9%) gave up some of the gains of recent weeks. Both are doing fine in the year-to-date perspective, with gains of 69 and 46 percent, respectively.
