Associated Press: Cleanup workers have contained about 34,000 gallons of crude that spewed from a broken oil pipeline in northwestern North Dakota, state health officials said Friday. North Dakota Water Quality Director Dennis Fewless said the breach occurred Thursday morning on Hiland Crude LLC's pipeline about 6 miles northeast of Alexander. According to report released by NTSB, 2012 rupture of a Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation natural gas pipeline in West Virginia was caused by external corrosion that could have been discovered by pipeline operator. Said pipeline had not been inspected or tested since 1988. If it had been inspected with inline tool, NTSB claims the rupture would likely have been avoided. NTSB Chairman Deborah A.P. North Dakota Pipeline Rupture Spews 75 Barrels of Crude

Associated Press: Tesoro Corp. says an excavator struck an oil pipeline in western North Dakota, spilling about 75 barrels of crude, or about 3,150 gallons. The company says it happened Wednesday afternoon near Cartwright, which is west of Watford City near the Montana border. Tesoro says the release of oil has been stopped and about 70 barrels' worth of oil has been recovered. The company says there were no injuries, and no impacts to wildlife were reported.
