Three subsidiaries of North Carolina-based Duke Energy Corporation, the largest utility in the United States, pleaded guilty to nine criminal violations of the Clean Water Act at several of its North Carolina facilities and agreed to pay a $68 million criminal fine and spend $34 million on environmental projects and land conservation to benefit rivers and wetlands in North Carolina and Virginia. Four of the charges are the direct result of the massive coal ash spill from the Dan River steam station into the Dan River near Eden, N.C., in February 2014.

CenturyLink has opened a hydroelectric powered data center powered by two dams, the Wanapum Dam and the Priest Rapid Dam, both on the Columbia River. Communications and data services provider CenturyLink has opened a new data center that gets 85% of its power from nearby dams.

Newly revised draft addresses comments from previous comment period and aims to help standardize ways in which plant water demands are quantified for landscape purposes. Public comment period, ending June 30, 2015, is open to those with interest and expertise in said subject matter who wish to provide input.
