Pakistan's Warid selects Ericsson for 4G LTE deployment

(Telecompaper) Pakistani mobile operator Warid Telecom has selected Ericsson as its technology partner in the roll-out of 4G LTE in Pakistan. Warid will use Ericsson's technology to shifted from 2G to 4G LTE technology directly. Warid Telecom has already started an internal trial to test the network capacity and service reliability. Public trials will then be announced by the company along with a program for 4G LTE-enabled devices. Warid has already started delivering free 4G LTE SIMs to its customers who have 4G LTE enabled handsets.

Ericsson Ads Break From Past With Maersk Line Wireless Projects

Ericsson AB is looking to break from its mobile-networking past with a series of ads that showcase projects such as remote tracking for a Maersk Line shipping vessel and video conferencing at schools in Bhutan. As part of its marketing campaign dubbed "Capturing the Networked Society," the 138-year-old Swedish company has released 61 mini films on its website and a branded YouTube channel.

Ericsson dumps LTE modem business

Full-featured, integrated chips and tough competition have forced telecom vendor Ericsson to halt all future development of its LTE modems. The move comes just over a year after Ericsson took over the LTE modem operations of its joint venture with STMicroelectronics as that relationship broke up.
