For our activities in ESTEC, we are currently looking for a Product Assurance and Safety Support Engineer. Main responsibilities You will be responsible for the following Operational PA support to the operations test and simulation activities including system verification and integration tests and launch simulation campaigns Operational PA support to launch, satellite commissioning and InOrbit Test activities Monitor and control the operations Anomaly and NonConformance Review process including organizing chairing, and participation to, Anomaly and Non Conformance Review Boards as required Operational PA input to system level reviews including, PDR, CDR, SQR, ORR and LRR. This position requires frequent mission travel within Europe. Ideal candidate Requirements You should bring a Master Degree or equivalent, at least 4 years of experience in Product Assurance and Quality Assurance in the aerospace domain and the following Knowledge of Configuration Management or the implementation of Product Assurance within a quality system certified to ISO 9001 would be an asset Knowledge of Galileo Navigation is an asset Good interpersonal, organisation and communication skills, with the ability to work in a diverse team environment. Within RSP Remote Sensing and Products Division, the key person will support the team of the Atmospheric and Imaging Applications AIA in the group responsible for the scientific AMV product development and implementation. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Algorithm software anomaly investigation and correction Design and implementation of algorithm enhancements or improvements Software feasibility analyses of proposed new product algorithms, or major algorithm upgrades Development of tools in support of product monitoring and product analysis, for example as part of EPS PPF product validation testing Preparation of technical documents on product implementation issues Preparation of technical notes and reports as required Attendance at technical and RSPAIA team meetings as required The focus of these tasks will primarily be on the AMV products extracted from both geostationary and polar orbit systems however, there may tasks related to other products for which the work of the key person may be partially allocated. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or comparable qualifications in Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics or related subjects, the Key person shall have a minimum of four years experience of processing satellite or meteorological data. Specifically the Key person shall have Proven experience in the design, implementation, and testing of complex scientific algorithm software Proven experience of software development in C, C and Fortran in a UNIX environment Proven experience in software development using data visualisation and analysis tools e.g. PYTHON, IDL Experience in configuration control of software and data Sound knowledge and experience in the area of Atmospheric Motion Vectors extraction from satellite imagery, or experience with image processing algorithms in the area of feature identification and tracking, or experience with optical flow methods would be a distinct advantage. Another distinct advantage would be experience in operational data processing. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Your Tasks Include Inhouse consultancy support is sought for the ongoing processor development activities in preparation for the future UVN instrument to be flown on MTGS. The key person will provide support within the Atmospheric Composition Team in the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division, located in Darmstadt, Germany. Heshe will be fully integrated in the Atmospheric Composition Team and will interface with inhouse experts of various disciplines system, instruments, operations, science, and in particular members of the MTG Science and Instrument Teams. The tasks of the key person will include Provision of support to the development of algorithms for calibration of UVN level 0 data Provision of support to the development of an Instrument Data Simulator Taking into account the constraints imposed by the final goal of implementation of the products within an operational processing system Provision of support to the development of prototype software code for the purposes of testing and validation the algorithms developed Provision of support to the development of an instrument performance model based on specifications to be provided by industry Provision of support to the development of software for crosscalibration and validation activities Generation of test data required for the verification of the algorithm and products Provision of support to the generation of associated documentation including test data descriptions, Product Specification PS, technical reports etc Interfacing with Client experts as needed Collaboration with expert groups and the wider scientific community as appropriate Assessment of results from scientific studies Provision of support to operational level 2 processor development activities, for future level 2 product development for the UVN instrument. Your Profile The UVN Level 1 product development consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfill the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and have good interpersonal skills. Heshe shall be familiar with satellite instrument characteristics for Earth observation, in particular calibration and validation of moderate spectral resolution data in the UVVisibleNIR part of the spectrum. Heshe shall have the ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the consultant shall have a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of remote sensing product data processing and analysis including at least 2 years of experience of UVVisibleNIR calibration and validation. Further the consultant shall have a solid background in software engineering. Specifically the consultant shall fulfill at least a significant subset of the following criteria Very good skills in a higher programming language e.g. Fortran, C Working with UNIX andor Linux operating systems Specification, design and coding of complex product processors Testing and verification of complex data processing systems Handling and processing of remote sensing data Experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the optical spectrum Ultraviolet to Near Infrared Experience with instrument calibration and characterization Familiarity with Earth observation systems in operational meteorology, atmospheric composition and climate monitoring both remote sensing and in situ systems Writing concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports.
