Mission The tasks of the Key person will include development of algorithms for aerosol products from instruments on the Metop series of satellites with a particular focus on multiinstrument aerosol products, drawing on the science of current established products from hyperspectral infrared and UVVisible sounders and multichannel imagers evaluation and refinement of aerosol algorithms for the current MSG SEVIRI instrument taking into account the constraints imposed by the final goal of implementation of the products within an operational processing system development of prototype software code for the purposes of testing and validation the algorithms developed generation of test data required for the verification of the algorithm and products validation of the products produced by the prototype software code using independent data generation of associated documentation including test data descriptions, Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents ATBD, Product User Guides, Calibration and Validation Plan, Validation reports etc provision of support for implementation and validation of the products within the operational processing environment interfacing with experts across EUMETSAT as needed collaboration with expert groups and the wider scientific community outside EUMETSAT as appropriate provision of support for algorithm development and potentially prototype software development for future polar orbiting missions including next generation hyperspectral infrared and UVVisible sounders and multichannel imaging instruments with improved potential for deriving aerosol products. Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of remote sensing product development including at least 2 years of aerosol product development. Specifically the key person shall have experience in aerosol optical properties retrieval from satellite data inverse modelling of atmospheric composition using vector radiative transfer models calibration and validation of satellite data products the EPS missions and instruments writing concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports demonstrated skills in a higher programming language specification, design and coding of complex product processors testing and verification of complex data processing systems. The following areas of expertise would be an advantage familiarity with the algorithm basis for MSG SEVIRI aerosol product quality control of satellite data and products operational product processing environments software build environments and tools e.g. make, imake, eclipse, insure source code control system, e.g. Subversion or CVS. Fluency in English written and oral is mandatory. Your Tasks Include In general, the tasks of this Key Person will be towards the provision of support within Clients Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP to the routine monitoring and validation of satellite derived meteorological products. Furthermore, at least 3 years experience in software development in a Linux or Unix environment is required, together with at least 3 years experience in a higher programming language as e.g. Fortran90, C or C. Experience with graphics packages like IDL or Matlab would be a distinct advantage. The Key Person is required to have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. The Key Person shall also possess good interpersonal skills.
