Mobilink rebrands mobile financial services as JazzCash

(Telecompaper) Pakistani mobile operator Mobilink has rebranded its Mobicash mobile service. The operator has introduced 'JazzCash' as its brand name for Mobile Financial Services (MFS) in place of Mobicash, The News reports, citing Aamir Ibrahim, Mobilink's deputy CEO & CCO. This rebranding follows Mobilink's recent has relaunch of its 'Jazz' youth brand. "The reintroduction of Jazz as the face of Mobilink's digital journey meant a string of communication solutions under the Jazz ecosystem primed for the digital age. In this way, our latest offering, JazzCash, is version 2.0 of our mobile financial service, Mobicash", Ibrahim said.

ISLAMABAD Pakistan's telecom industry is about to witness a massive consolidation as the parent companies of Mobilink and Warid Telecom announced on Thursday that they had reached a merger agreement. A joint press release issued by both companies confirms that Mobilink will first acquire 100 per cent of Warid's shares in consideration for the Dhabi Group shareholders acquiring approximately 15 percent of the Mobilink shares.

(Telecompaper) VimpelCom and Global Telecom Holding (GTH), Warid Telecom Pakistan and Bank Alfalah (Dhabi Group shareholders), have agreed to merge their Pakistan telecom businesses. The merger of Mobilink and Warid Telecom will create an entity that will serve 45 million customers and be in a better position to develop high-speed mobile networks. The transaction is the first merger in the mobile telecommunications sector in Pakistan. VimpelCom and the Dhabi Group shareholders have agreed a clear corporate governance structure. The board will consist of seven directors, of whom six will be nominated by VimpelCom and GTH and one nominated by the Dhabi Group shareholders. Upon completion, Mobilink CEO Jeffrey Hedberg will become the CEO of the combined business and Mobilink's CFO Andrew Kemp the new CFO. The transaction is expected to create capex and opex synergies with a net present value of USD 500 million. The combined revenue of both companies for the 12 months to September was USD 1.4 billion.
