Sitting under the grand ceiling of the St. Jean Baptiste Church Thursday night, members of the community gathered with DIY Lowell leaders to make action plans for projects to improve the city. Up for discussion were ideas to create little libraries at bus stops, a downtown history trail, plant fruit trees, organize a star-viewing party on top of Christian Hill, and create Lowell bike racks and other art with items from around the city.

J.B. Hunt plans new office space for 1,250 employees at Lowell HQ

J.B. Hunt Transport Services is expected to start construction this summer on a seven-story office tower on its corporate headquarters campus in Lowell. Details on the construction project, expected to be completed in 2017, are sketchy but the company has released the following: "The building will be approximately 150,000 square feet with capacity to accommodate 1,250 employees."

Lowell man pleads guilty to manslaughter in 2004 shooting

A 35-year-old Lowell man who got out of a life sentence when his second-degree murder conviction was overturned in 2013 was sentenced to 19 years in prison on Tuesday after pleading to manslaughter. Daniel Kung, of Lowell, was sentenced to 19 years to 19 years and one day in prison by Judge Kenneth Salinger, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office said in a press release.
