The defect affected all versions of iOS 6 and 7 and was only resolved with the release of iOS 8.1 in October 2014.

Concerns are deepening on Wall Street about potential weakness in iPhone shipments following a light revenue forecast from one of Apple's suppliers. Shares of Cupertino, California-based Apple fell 1.4 percent on Thursday and were down 6 percent over the past five sessions, reflecting growing worries that iPhone shipments next year could fall for the first time since the device's launch in 2007 as fewer people replace their smartphones.

According to market-research firm Stifel, Apple supplier Jabil Circuit has lowered its guidance for its current quarter, which ends in February 2016. According to the note, Jabil's revenue forecast implies a 23% sequential decline in its Diversified Manufacturing Services segment, the unit that's largely responsible for making the iPhone's casings.

Apple's stock dips as concerns mount about iPhone shipments

In a note to clients on Wednesday, Bank of America cut its estimate for fiscal 2016 iPhone shipments by 10 million to 220 million, pointing to a weakening among Apple's suppliers. In another note, Raymond James lowered its estimate for 2016 iPhone shipments to 224 million from 229 million, also pointing to lackluster expectations at Apple suppliers.
