Ground Segment System Architecture Engineer

Job Description As part of the System Engineering and Projects Division, the key person will be working on the architectural and system engineering activities for operational and future programmes ground segments. The key person will have the following tasks and responsibilities Requirements engineering, includes requirements analysis and validation, requirements allocation, tracing, and requirements change control Functional analysis and architecture design applying system modelling engineering methods and techniques Ground Segment components specification Interface definition System analyses, performed for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, decomposing and allocating requirements, assessing system effectiveness Tradeoff studies for assessing effectiveness, risk, cost and planning for the implementation of changes requested by operations users and customers. Build models of Subsystem of the Reference Architecture Ground Segment, capturing their requirements, describing the internal architecture and defining their external interfaces Support the generation, review and maintenance of the documentation of the Reference Architecture Subsystems addressing their architecture, functions, requirements and interfaces Support the management of the requirements of the Reference Architecture subsystem and Components, heeding on the evolution of the operational system and future systems, using DOORS Categorise and link relevant Subsystem and Component requirements to the model for traceability Refine the processes and working practices established for the application of the Model Based Systems Engineering and the use of Vitech CORE Analysis of Engineering Change Requests issued for evolution of the operational ground segments. Requirements The key person shall have A university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile Extensive experience in the analysis of systems applications and modelling Demonstrated experience in the field of systems engineering and architectural design Experience in Space and Ground System engineering processes, and System and Software lifecycles and standards Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering methods, techniques and tools Experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of architectural design activities e.g. Vitech CORE, Enterprise Architect Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS Experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision Fluency in English. For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Project Manager EPSSG Ground Segment. Tasks and Responsibilities As Project Manager you will provide support to the EPSSG Ground Segment Manager and team for management related aspects and will report to the EPSSG Ground Segment Manager, who is responsible for the ground segment project and for the daytoday assignment of the activities. Your tasks will typically include but not necessarily be limited to the following Participate in team management meetings and in meetings with partner agencies, contractors, internal stakeholders, etc. as appropriate Track progress against agreed development plans and signal any likely or identified deviations from these plans, together with proposals to reduce the impact of any delays Track actions and risks, analysing and reporting critical issues to the Project Manager, and support the close out of such actions and risk mitigation activities Prepare minutes of meetings and correspondence to industry andor EUMETSAT partners Contribute to the preparation and execution of the Project Reviews from a management standpoint Contribute to maintaining the project schedule in coordination with EPSSG team members, perform a critical path analysis of the schedule In coordination with the EPSSG Project Control Team, support the Project Manager and team in maintaining project documents such as the Project Management Plan, Product Tree, Team Organisation Chart, Work Breakdown Structure WBS and related documents Prepare presentations and synthetic progress reports for internal e.g. report to senior management and external purposes Follow up subsystem development activities monitor deliverables to and from EUMETSATs partner agencies and industry, and support the review of deliverables. Support the control of the baseline definition of the ground segment including evaluation of Change Requests, Change Proposals, Requests for Waiver Deviation, etc. Support on a case by case basis the other Programmes within the LEO Division in Project management support activities. Requirements Essentials As successful candidate you should be able to analyse complex situations, identify critical areas and produce accurate and concise analyses and recommendations. You should also be able to fulfil the assigned tasks autonomously, be able to plan your work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks and work in a rigorous way to agreed deadlines. You should be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. You should bring the following experience, background and skills University degree in the domain of engineering, science, business administration or equivalent At least 3 years of experience performing project management activities At least 5 years of experience working on large and complex development projects in the aerospace or similar domain Experience of working on a collaborative programme between different partners Ability to make synthesis from various written or verbal inputs with excellent English writing skills Good computing skills with strong experience withability to use MS Office software Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be fluent and able to work effectively in English, knowledge of French being an advantage. Desirables The following would be additional assets Knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures and processes Certification in project management or in project management disciplines Knowledge of systems development lifecycle Experience of Ground Segment development for Earth Observation systems Knowledge of ECSS standards. This is a opportunity for an experienced Engineer to coordinate the Ground Segment level test and simulations activities leading to the declaration of the operational readiness. The development of the MOC and SOC will be carried out separately, under the responsibility of a local MOC and SOC development managers. The GS Test Coordinator has a natural interface to the Flight Director, who will have to declare the readiness of the GS. The Ground Segment Test Coordinator reports to the Ground Segment Manager. This position shall be initially located in Geneva for 1 to 1.5 years, following this the position moves to Madrid. The position is unlimited and full time. The position should start 1st of November or earlier and submission deadline for interested candidates is 18th of September.
