As expected, the new Pixel smartphones are bigger and more expensive, starting at USD 799 for the 5.5-inch Pixel 3 and USD 899 for the 6.3-inch Pixel 3 XL. Verizon again gets the exclusive for the phones in the US, in addition to Project Fi and the Google Store, and the phones will also launch in the UK, Japan, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Singapore, Spain, India and Taiwan.

Google to close down Google+ for consumers after possible data breach

(Telecompaper) Google has announced it will be closing down its Google+ social network for consumers and giving users better control over their data. The moves come after the company's Project Strobe, started earlier this year to review third-party developer access to Google account and Android device data, found out that the profiles of up to 500,000 Google+ accounts were likely exposed to external developers. The bug was discovered and fixed in March but the company cannot say which users were affected, because it only keeps API log data for two weeks. The wind-down of Google+ for consumers will take ten months.

Viaplay voice control on board for Scandinavian launch of Google Home

NENT Group has announced that its Viaplay streaming service will be compatible with Google Home and Google Home Mini when they arrive in stores across Scandinavia on 24 October. Users will be able to control Viaplay on a Chromecast or Android TV using voice commands in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish.
