BIO praised Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) for introducing the Start-up Jobs and Innovation Act, which will help spur investment in small biotech companies and other innovative businesses. BIO also congratulates Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) for cosponsoring legislation. By providing incentives for investors to partner with young research companies, bill will stimulate R&D investment at earliest, most-critical stages of company’s research.

Scheduled for July 19–22, 2015 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal in Montréal, Canada, 2015 World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology will cover entire value chain, from research to feedstocks to manufacturing to end products for biofuels, biobased products, renewable chemicals, and consumer products. BIO hosted around 1,100 attendees from 640 companies and 45 countries at its 2014 World Congress in Philadelphia and expects to exceed these numbers in Montréal.

BIO President says FY 2016 budget threatens medical innovation.

In response to President Obama's FY 2016 budget proposal, BIO's Jim Greenwood cited provisions proposing changes to biologic data exclusivity and cuts to Medicare Part D and B as "deeply troubling" and claimed they would be "detrimental to the development of new cures and treatments for patients in need." Amidst prise for other aspects, Greenwood noted BIO will continue to work with Administration "in pursuit of public policies that encourage investment in biotech innovation."
