CS is therefore looking for engineers able to bring support to the PDGS Payload Data Ground Segment Engineering and Management Services of ESRIN Italy for the design, implementation, integration, validation, commissioning and operations activities.TasksFor the data services of the EO PDGS, the support will cover the following areas General data services coordination Data archiving support including preparation, implementation and execution activities Data reprocessing support including preparation, implementation and execution activities procurement for PDGS including interfaces with external entities for the use of data from external sources data dissemination support including support to the webbased information servicesSupport for the mission planning management of the PDGS includes the following areas Mission Planning SW Interface and Validation Mission planning operations Support to PDGS Progress Reviews Payload and downlink planning activities Data acquisition, processing and dissemination HW, SW and network configuration support to configuration and documentation management, support to analysis of anomalies and investigations Technical skills Mandatory skill experience in earth observation ground segment areaAdditional skills considered as an advantage Experience with Earth Observation satellite PDGS development or operation, Experience in requirement verification and operational validation Experience in configuration management Knowledge in ground segment network Knowledge in mission analysis Knowledge of ESA Earth Observation Multi Mission Ground SegmentHuman skills High degree of autonomy Good communication, presentation and team working skills Ability to conduct activities in a disciplined mannerComptences linguistiques Solid working knowledge in English language. Climate Data Engineer

This is a permanent position, calling for experience of satellite meteorology or oceanography related to climate. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germany for several years. Candidates should ideally be available to start in August 2015. The main working language is English. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The role will embrace Development and implementation of operational product reprocessing chains including algorithm processors Software development and implementation of operational functional and product quality monitoring procedures Acquisition of data from internal and external sources to support product quality monitoring Control and execution of operations with respect to both data set generation and evaluation Preparation of data sets for ingestion into a data centre Supporting he validation of products employing quality monitoring procedures and other validation techniques Support to the development and maintenance of operational procedures for data set generation Compilation of technical notes on data set generation issues and relevant data set documentation including validation reports, user guides and format descriptions Compiling results into presentations Attendance at scientific and technical meetings Support to international projects and coordinating organisations The key experience and attributes sought are Basic knowledge in satellite meteorology andor oceanography related to climate Basic knowledge in satellite instrument calibration and intercalibration Experience in measurement uncertainty analysis metrology andor validation of satellite products including climate data records At least five years experience in developing scientific software using languages, such as CC, FORTRAN, and IDL inclusive of object oriented software design Experience in using scripting languages to organise data processing, such as Python, Perl, and Shellscript in operational Unix environments Experience in software build environments and source code control systems e.g. Subversion, Rational ClearCase, CVS Experience in the usage of native and community data formats NetCDF 3 and 4, GRIB, HDF5, and BUFR Experience in large data volume processing in operational processing environments Experience of participation in international projects Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Expertise in inversion methods for the retrieval of geophysical parameters Database management systems such as MySQL or others Experience in development of web applications using GWT serverclient framework, Java, JavaScript, HTML and CSS Expertise in formalised software testing such as unit and regression testing. Candidates should possess a University degree in Meteorology or a similar discipline. Fluency in English is essential and some ability with French advantageous. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germany for several years. Candidates should ideally be available to start in July 2015. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The jobholder will focus on supporting the maintenance and evolution of the clients data processing facilities. Duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operations and maintenance, to the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. Besides these routine tasks, you will also be expected to contribute to requirements specification, design and system engineeringreengineering, development and testing activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. The key experience and attributes sought are Engineering of large, complex, realtime data processing systems, including requirements specification, design, software maintenance or development, formal software testing and system integration Operating or maintaining software systems in a UNIX or LINUX based environment Software build environments and tools e.g. IBM XL C and GCC compilers, make, automake, autoconf, RPM Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, IBM Purify, Valgrind Source code control systems e.g. primarily Subversion, Git CC programming language experience in a UNIX or LINUX based environment Scripting languages e.g. Perl, shell Analysis and processing of softwaregenerated reports and logfiles Web technologies and programming e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript Networking technologies and tools e.g. Space Data Link Protocols, TCPIP, UDP multicast, PGM, FTP, Wireshark Very good technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation, e.g. requirements specification and design documentation, test plans and procedures, maintenance procedures The main working language is English and candidates must be fluent in both reading and writing but knowledge of French also would be advantageous.
