Tasks and Activities The scope of work covers the initial phases of the satellite system design, including feasibility studies at the Phase 0 PrePhase A Phase A level but excluding, in principle, the implementation phase. Management, analysis, definition, and initiation of industrial activities associated to new projects in the telecommunication satellite system domain Assessment of the need and commercial potential for future satellite telecommunication missions and systems Assessment of new concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation satellite communication systems for both space and ground segment Managing prospective studies on new mission concepts and architectures Analysing and preparing proposals for new telecommunication satellite telecommunication projects, including the definition of mission requirements Definition of all the elements endtoend associated to the missionsystem architecture of new telecommunication satellite projectssystems Assessment and analysis of the best concepts and technical solutions to meet the defined mission and system requirements. Assessment of the potential and benefits at system level of new techniquestechnologies. Perform tradeoffs between different conceptstechnologies to optimize the endtoend system Support the negotiation, monitoring and control of contracts and activities related to system studies and Phases A of new telecommunication satellite projects Acquire and maintain endtoend system engineering expertise for the development of new telecommunication satellite system concepts and in new ESA ProjectsProgrammes. Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering Minimum 10 years of experience in satellite system engineering including industrial experience in the design and development of satellite communication systems Strong experience in space segment payload and preferably in broadband or mobile satellite communication systems Experience with telecommunication satellites platform, payload, or telecommunication endtoend system engineering Experience working with multiple divisions of the European Space Agency and interacting with subject matters experts You must be able to spend the first 3 months in Noordwijk for training purposes. Satellite System Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities You will have the following responsibilities Support the introduction of Galileo early services e.g. OS, CS, SAR and PRS and the preparation of the Galileo exploitation phase Galileo service verification and feedback to system level design and definition including the update of the corresponding documentation Responsible for service performance tests within verification campaigns, definition of test cases including test procedures and passfail criteria, execution of tests and analysis of results and provision of test reports Satellite navigation data processing to derive service performance relevant parameters and drivers Application of engineering models and tools in support of the system verification and validation. Definition and implementation of software Support to EndtoEnd system functional interface integration, testing and verification activities with focus on the Galileo ground segment but also between Space to Ground in cooperation with system operations Review of the system and segment data packages and provision of review comments and reports as well presentation of results in front of the customer. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Several years of professional experience in GNSS satellite system and segment engineering design, architecture definition and system verification and testing Theoretical and practical knowledge of the satellitebased Navigation Systems GPS, EGNOS, GLONASS Understanding of data dissemination flow and navigation message generation and processing as well as GNSS end user constraints and GNSS applications, error models and data processing Experience in GNSS receiver operation and in system simulation Experience in satellite navigation data evaluation, process definition and implementation, statistics determination, report generation Understanding of satellite orbital mechanics, orbit propagation and determination Fluency in English is mandatory.
