Geo Information Data Engineer

Summary A Data Scientist is required to join Telespazio UKs Artificial Intelligence AI team developing machine and deep learning activities within the Geo Information GI group using satellite data. Telespazio UK is part of a company containing over 2500 people working in the growing field of Space Systems and operations and GeoInformation. Telespazio is majority owned by Leonardo, one of the UKs largest defence, aerospace and security companies. Objective Working with the Lead Data Scientist you will develop new products and applications that use statistics, analytics, machine learning, forecasting and optimization to enhance their efficiency and performance. Telespazio UK is investing heavily in relevant technology, and offers the opportunity to be involved in exciting project work within the space sector with scope for further progression and upskilling. Responsibilities Duties Developing satellite SARbased services andor technologies based upon user requirements Working with customer requirements to establish GeoInformation products and services specification and needs Developing prototype and proof of concept systems to demonstrate business need Continuous improvements to automated data handling tools Supporting technical contributions to bid writing Qualifications Experience University Masters degree in mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent, or highly specific Bachelors degree in Data ScienceEngineering Strong computer literacy skills, including software engineering, software development programming experience with modern programming languages such as Python Experience with machine and deep learning, particularly the development and optimisation of neural networks Essential Skills Inventiveness and problem solving skills Ability to transform a technical concept and mathematic model into efficient software implementation Experience of using statistical or data analytics techniques Software engineering and software development in Linux and or crossplatform Interest in, and enthusiasm for, climate, environment or Earth observation science Desirable Skills Experience of deploying machine learning applications to local and cloud infrastructures Experience in applying data science techniques to SAR data Experience in applying data science techniques to spatial, andor Earth observation datasets Understanding of sound data management and adhering to corporate standards Cloud and edgecomputing application development Qualities Desire to be a team player capable of working with staff at all levels, alongside the ability to work independently Selfstarter and effective time management, with particular skills in multitasking Good communication skills, both written and oral Commercial awareness

SPECIFIC TASKS Perform services at ESA Kourou office in support of STSEMK and STSEMC with regards to following CSG operational contracts status, ensuring the validity of processes carried out as described in operational contracts, and helping to improve the industrial processes, with regards to exploitation related activities. Conferring with stakeholders about specifications, industrial capacities and capabilities, and status of projects. Reviewing schedules, process flows, etc. to understand methods and activities in operations, integration and services, and how to improve efficiency and eliminate waste. Understanding the ways industrial systems at the CSG interact and how changes in conditions operations, launch rate, etc. can affect outcomes. Proposing industrial, process, and supply chain improvements. Designing control systems to minimise and resolve process and project issues. Coordinating with others internally and externally to assess the above and to create and implement changes. Contributing to measures and the improvement of database structure and functionalities. Helping to create processes methods to gather supplier contract and process activity data and propose and follow KPIs. Writing and establishment of report elements which will be directly usable in the ESA reporting system such as proposals and progress reports. SPECIFIC COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS Degree qualification, preferably masters in an engineering or related subject. Lean andor six sigma training would be an advantage. Senior level of technical writing skills and command of the French and English languages both written and spoken. Experience highly developed capability in complex information data mining, analysis and reporting. A knowledge of the CSG and its functioning will be considered an important asset. Able to be discreet about confidential data. High degree of computer literacy MSOffice products particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Knowledge of relational database concepts will be considered an asset. Contract and or supply chain management would be an asset. Relevant experience in MA, airport operations, andor industrial processes would be an asset.
