(Telecompaper) The US FCC announced it's completed the auction of the upper 37 GHz, 39 GHz and 47 GHz bands, which started on 10 December 2019. The auction of 5G spectrum attracted total bids of USD 7.56 billion, and bidders won 99.9 percent of the licences on offer.

(Telecompaper) The California Institute of Technology has prevailed in a patent infringement case launched against Apple and Broadcom, who have been ordered to pay a total USD 1.1 billion in damages, Reuters reports. In a case filed in federal court in Los Angeles back in 2016, the Pasadena-based research university claimed that Broadcom Wi-Fi chips used in millions of Apple iPhones infringed patents relating to data transmission technology. The federal jury awarded CalTech USD 837.8 million from Apple and USD 270.2 million from Broadcom.
America Movil hit with USD 70 million Telnor fine

(Telecompaper) Mexican telecommunications regulator IFT has fined America Movil's fixed-line unit Telnor a total of MXN 1.31 billion (around USD 70 million) for breaching the requirement to share information about the availability of its passive infrastructure, such as posts and ducts, with rivals via the electronic management system SEG.

Cincinnati Bell gets higher bid from infrastructure fund, at USD 12 per share

(Telecompaper) Cincinnati Bell said it has received a unsolicited bid from an infrastructure fund. The bid, at USD 12 per share, tops the offer Cincinnati Bell earlier accepted a bid from Brookfield Infrastructure, at USD 10.50 per share, or USD 2.6 billion in total. Although the board of Cincinnati Bell supports the transaction with Brookfield, the agreement allows Cincinnati Bell to talk with other companies, and the company confirmed it is doing so with the infrastructure fund.
Oi sells 25% stake in Unitel for USD 1 billion

(Telecompaper) Oi has agreed to sell its 25 percent share in Angolan operator Unitel for USD 1 billion, reports O Globo. The buyer is Angolan oil company Sonangol which will pay USD 750 million initially and the rest in 90 days.
