Verizon to buy Fleetmatics for USD 2.4 billion

(Telecompaper) Verizon is continuing its acquisition spree in new growth areas with a deal to buy Fleetmatics for USD 2.4 billion. The operator is offering USD 60 per share cash for the provider fleet and mobile workforce management services, equal to a premium of nearly 40 percent on the closing share price the day before the takeover was announced. Flletmatics offers a range of SaaS products aimed at SMEs in North America and has been expanding its presence internationally. It counts over 37,000 customers with a combined total of some 737,000 subscribers.
Icann sells .web domain for record USD 135 mln

(Telecompaper) The .web domain has sold for a record USD 135 million in an auction by Icann. A company called Nu Dot Co won the auction and can now offer firms the chance to own a domain ending .web. The figure is three times as much as was paid for the previous record holder, .shop, which went for USD 41.5 million, the BBC reports. Losing bidders for the domain included Google and net registry firms Afilias, Radix and Donuts. It was not known who is behind the company Nu Dot Co, but it faced pressure to be excluded from the auction by the other bidders.
Oracle to buy NetSuite for USD 9.3 billion

(Telecompaper) Oracle is accelerating its push into cloud services with the agreed takeover of NetSuite for USD 9.3 billion. Oracle said NetSuite pioneered the idea of cloud computing for business applications already in 1998. NetSuite provides a suite of cloud-based financials, ERP and omnichannel commerce software that services more than 30,000 companies and organizations in more than 100 countries. The acquisition was approved by a committee of independent Oracle directors and is expected to add immediately to the company's adjusted earnings. Oracle is offering USD 109 per share for NetSuite, a 19 percent premium on the share price the day before the announcement. Oracle aims to complete the takeover before the end of the year.
Verizon confirm takeover of Yahoo web assets for USD 4.8 bln

(Telecompaper) Verion has confirmed a deal to acquire Yahoo!'s web activities for USD 4.83 billion in cash. The acquisition sees Verizon expand further in digital media, after its takeover AOL last year, investments in video content and launch of a mobile video service. Yahoo's web properties and digital advertising business will be merged with AOL; additional technology assets to be acquired by Verizon include the programmtic ad platform Brightroll, mobile apps analytics service Flurry, and Gemini, Yahoo's native and search advertising platform. Yahoo will hold on to its stakes in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan, its cash and convertible notes, certain minority investments, and non-core patents (called the Excalibur portfolio). Following the takeover, which is expected to close by Q1 2017, Yahoo will change its company name and operate as a publicly traded investment company.

(Telecompaper) Verizon has won the bidding to buy Yahoo!'s web assets for USD 4.8 billion, Bloomberg reports. People with direct knowledge of the situation said the deal will be announced soon. The acquisition includes Yahoo real estate assets, while some intellectual property is to be sold separately, the report said. Yahoo will be left with its stakes in Alibaba Group and Yahoo Japan, with a combined market value of about USD 40 billion.
