EMEA Q1 cloud IT infrastructure revenue grows to USD 1.3 bln

(Telecompaper) Cloud IT infrastructure revenue in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) grew by 17.6 percent on year to USD 1.3 billion in the first quarter, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). The cloud-related share of total EMEA infrastructure expenditure on server, disk storage, and Ethernet switch grew by 4 percentage points compared with last year to more than 25.1 percent. In terms of storage capacity, cloud represented around 29.9 percent of total EMEA capacity, with a 6.1 percent decline over the same period a year before.

HP wins USD 3 bln award in Oracle server case

(Telecompaper) HP Enterprise has won USD 3 billion in damages in a suit against Oracle, the Wall Street Journal reports. A jury in Silicon Valley found that Oracle should pay HP Enterprise for violating a contract between the companies when it decided in 2011 to stop creating new versions of its database and other software for systems running Intel's Itanium chip. HP had argued that this violated terms of a settlement associated with its hiring of former HP CEO Mark Hurd, and that Oracle, which had expanded into servers by buying Sun Microsystems, had set out to hurt its new rival by the move. Oracle denied wrongdoing and vowed to appeal the jury decision.

World Bank commits USD 1 bn for solar projects in India

America Movil agrees to pay USD 1.1 mln to settle FCC probe

(Telecompaper) Puerto Rico Telephone Company (PRTC) and parent company America Movil have agreed to pay USD 1.1 million to settle a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigation into foreign ownership levels. In a statement the FCC said stock purchases of America Movil by its owner Carlos Slim and his family "repeatedly exceeded the foreign ownership levels approved by the Commission". The companies have each agreed to adopt compliance plans to prevent future stock purchases by the Slim family that would exceed foreign ownership limits without first receiving the agency's review and approval.

Tata to pay USD 1 bln in damages to Docomo in JV dispute

(Telecompaper) Japanese operator NTT Docomo has announced it received from the London Court of International Arbitration a binding arbitration award under the arbitration proceeding regarding its stake in Indian operator Tata Teleservices (TTSL). The award orders that Tata Sons pay damages to Docomo in the amount of USD 1.172 billion for Tata Sons' breach of the shareholders agreement, upon Docomo's tender of its entire stake in TTSL to Tata Sons or its designee.
