MITs carbon fiber Lego bricks can be fashioned into airplanes, rockets, bridges
2013-08-19 17:37:09| Extremetech
Materials engineers at MIT have created the carbon fiber equivalent of Lego bricks or K'Nex -- interlocking carbon fiber blocks that can be formed into large structures that are 10 times stiffer than comparable ultralight materials. These structures could be mass-produced by automated robots, and fashioned into airplane and rocket fuselages, wings, and bridges, among other things. Interestingly, unlike almost every other object made from composite materials, objects made from MIT's new structure can be easily disassembled or have individual "bricks" replaced when they break.

Costa Rica Carbon Credits Approved; Scam Warning
2013-08-19 10:16:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Costa Rican Times: A local carbon market will exist soon in Costa Rica, according to the Costa Rican Minister of Environment and Energy, Rene Castro, whose aim to reduce emissions. Ms. Castro informs us that they have already made a road map for the market they seek to create. The base price has already been defined as $3 per Costa Rican Compensation Unit (UCC). European forests close to 'carbon saturation point'
2013-08-18 20:03:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: Forests from Spain to Sweden are getting older, packed with trees less good at soaking up the emissions blamed for rising world temperatures, mounting sea levels and increasing numbers of heatwaves and floods, experts said. Trees are being threatened by more fires, storms and insect attacks, said the study published in the journal Nature Climate Change. Some parts of the continent have also started cutting down some forests, it added. That all meant Europe should no longer assume its forests...
