Mission Within RSP Remote Sensing and Products Division, the key person will work in the team of the Atmospheric and Imaging Applications AIA in the group responsible for the scientific product development and implementation. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Algorithm software anomaly investigation and correction Design and implementation of algorithm enhancements or improvements Software feasibility analyses of proposed new product algorithms, or major algorithm upgrades Development of tools in support of product monitoring and product analysis, for example as part of MSG MPEF product validation testing Preparation of technical documents on product implementation issues Preparation of technical notes and reports as required Attendance at technical and RSPAIA team meetings as required The focus of these tasks will primarily be on the AMV products extracted from both geostationary and polar orbit systems however, there may tasks related to other products for which the work of the key person may be partially allocated. Profile In addition to having a University degree or comparable qualifications in Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics or related subjects, the Key person shall have a minimum of three years experience of processing satellite or meteorological data. Specifically the Key person shall have Proven experience in the design, implementation, and testing of complex scientific algorithm software Proven experience of software development in C and Fortran in a UNIX environment Proven experience in software development using data visualisation and analysis tools e.g. IDL Experience in configuration control of software and data Sound knowledge and experience in the area of Atmospheric Motion Vectors extraction from satellite imagery, or experience with image processing algorithms in the area of feature identification and tracking would be a distinct advantage. Another distinct advantage would be experience in operational data processing. Fluency in English written and oral is mandatory. We are seeking a Consultancy Support on Data Processing Systems and Applications Engineer. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in the engineering of ground segment data processing elements for Earth Observation missions including requirements specification, definition of interfaces, architecture and testing concepts along with at least 3 years of direct involvement in specification, design, development andor procurement of at least two of the following Ground Segment elements Processing infrastructure for Level 1 and Level 2 data processing Level 1 instrument data processors Frontend and L0 processing. Knowledge in any of the following areas Requirements management in DOORS Experience with formal system architectural modelling and design tools Knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS standards Knowledge of CalibrationValidation activities for Earth Observation products Experience in specification, development andor procurement of instrument test data and processor prototypes for Earth Observation missions. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks As member of the Data Processing Systems and Applications Group of the SEP Division, the key person will be providing engineering support to the EPSSG Ground Segment team in the frame of the EPSSG Preparatory Programme Phase B, with support expected to be extended to cover the complete development life cycle in the next phases of the Programme. In the detail, the key person will support the following tasks Support to the definition of data processing concepts and their implications on Ground Segment interfaces and architecture Analysis of requirements and constraints imposed on Ground Segment data processing elements, including their impact and criticality Specification and maintenance of Ground Segment and lower level requirements in DOORS with associated traceability and verification methods, including the development of testing concepts and test scenarios Justification of requirements to be documented in the Ground Segment Design Justification File Maintenance of the functional and architectural model of Ground Segment data processing elements with the selected Model Based System Engineering MBSE methodology Contribution to the Ground Segment preliminary design definition to be documented in the Ground Segment Architectural Design Document Contribution to the Ground Segment Integration, Verification and Validation IVV approach definition for data processing elements Specification of Interface Requirements Documents IRDs Performance of tradeoffs to assess effectiveness, risks and costs of alternative architectural and technical solutions in the area of data processing Support to the compilation and maintenance of data processing engineering budgets such as data and products volumes, products generation timeliness Support to the procurement of Ground Segment data processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed by the contractor and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements Support to testing, integration and acceptance of Ground Segment data processing elements by reviewing testing documentation, managing procurement of test data where appropriate and evaluating coherence and adequacy of integration and system level tests. Thorn SDS are seeking a Consultancy Support on Ground Station Software and MC Engineer to join the SEP Division of the TSS Department. A key focus of the role is to support the activities of ground segment developments in the area of Software Monitoring and Control MC related to the ground stations. All applicants must have demonstrated experience in the following areas System Software engineering in an operational earth observation environment. Monitoring and Control application Maintenance and Configuration Ground Stations Monitoring and Control LinuxWindows operating system TCPIP, SNMP, Serial based communications C and java programming languages and XML Longterm maintainability analysis and integrating software into a new operating system andor across computer platforms. Experience in the following Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TTC and payload data transmissions e.g. ECSS and CCSDS standards C and Java programming languages such as XML Knowledge of multiplexingdemultiplexing schemes applied in Space Links for TTC and payload data transmissions e.g. ECSS and CCSDS Standards Data Base Applications and related configurations control mechanisms. Would be considered an advantage. Typical tasks and responsibilities will include To support the Engineering activities of Phase B of future ground segments in the areas of ground stations software and MC systems. To support the analysis and implementationtesting of changes, or reengineering that may be required on the basis of user requirements or maintainability issues.
