It has now been over 30 years that comprehensive CS solutions for space systems and applications, both on the ground and in space, have been part and parcel of this odyssey. The applicant shall work in the Operations and User Services Department of our customer as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. Scope The activities for this consultancy will include scientific aspects related to the development of the product processing facilities of the EPSSG ground segment. The consultant will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in the Remote Sensing and Products Division of the Technical and Science Support Department. The consultant will work at EUMETSAT Headquarters, located in Darmstadt, Germany. The tasks and responsibilities will include Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial calibrationvalidation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies System meetings and activities of instrument functional chain teams Participation in reviews. The support will involve close crossdivisional interactions and interface with experts in various disciplines system engineering, instruments, operations, science. Profile Scientific consultancy will be sought in the areas of 1.Optical imaging or 2.Microwave imaging or 3.Microwave sounding or 4.Scatterometry. The consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum level of supervision. The consultant shall have the following experience and background University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent At least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing in one or more of the areas listed above Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Java Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office Good interpersonal skills in support of team work The following experience would be an additional asset Experience in understanding and writing requirements Experience with the specification, development and validation of satellite data processing chains Experience with calibration and product validation methods Knowledge in radiative transfer. Fluency in English is mandatory.

Description As mentioned in section 1.1, the consultant shall support the activities of ground segment developments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications. In doing this, the consultant shall support Engineering activities of Phase B of future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications The follow up of the detailed design and development activities of Phase CD of the future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications The maintenance and evolution in phase E to the other programmes within EUMETSAT MSG, MTG ,EPS, Jason,.. in the areas of Telecommunications, RF and Ground Stations, Participation in the daytoday activities of the STC Lab managed within EMETSAT small Telecommunications and RF laboratory supporting system simulations and analysis as well as small applications developments based mainly on MathLab and Labview e.g. tailored Remote Spectrum Analyser MMIs. The consultant will be a member of a multidisciplinary system engineering team and will report directly to the SEP Ground Stations Engineering Team Leader, however when working in a given programme, the consultant shall report also within the established programme structure. In the performance of these tasks, the consultant shall apply the relevant organisational and programmatic quality management procedures as well as the relevant ground stations system engineering standards. Profile The Consultant shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. Heshe shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 5 years. This experience shall include in particular Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TTC, mission specific andor satellite communications ground stations TTC baseband equipment and SLE compliant implementations Technical background in the specification and VV of ground stations and large antennas and tracking systems for LEO and GEO satellites ACU and receivers inclusive Knowledge of modulationdemodulation schemes applied by Ground to Space ICD for TTC and payload data transmission e.g. ECSS and CCSDS Standards In addition, the knowledge and experience of the following processesareas is considered as an asset Design and requirements engineering of large and complex Earth Observation related ground stations e.g. MSG PGS or EPS CDAs Usage of High Data Rate Demodulators System experience with Link budget analysis and tools in S, X and Ka Band. The monthly reports shall provide the level of effort per activity documentation generated shall be submitted in writing directly to the technical representative. The work will be released in individual Work Packages.
