Chipmakers apply for US licences to continue sales to Huawei

(Telecompaper) Several major chipmakers have sought exemptions from the new US sanctions against Huawei, so they can continue to supply the company. These include Qualcomm, Micron Technology, Samsung Electronics, Mediatek and Macronix International, reports Caixin Global. New Commerce Department rules that went into force 15 September forbid any company whose production process involves American technology from supplying Huawei with products unless they obtain a licence.
Verizon, Dish, cable operators lead spending on 3.5 GHz licences

(Telecompaper) The FCC has released the names of the winners of the recent 3.5 GHz band auction. The biggest mobile operator, Verizon spent the most at USD 1.89 billion in total, followed by newcomer Dish Network spending USD 913 million on almost 5,500 of the local spectrum licences. They are expected to use the frequencies to boost capacity on 5G networks.

Belgium grants 5 operators temporary 5G licences

(Telecompaper) Belgian regulator BIPT has granted five operators temporary rights to use the 3600-3800 MHz radio frequency band for 5G services. These include Cegeka, Entropia, Orange, Proximus and Telenet. A total of 200 MHz is available, or 40 MHz for each operator. These rights of use will remain valid until more permanent licences are granted through a traditional auction procedure.

Ethiopian regulator receives 12 bids for 2 telecoms licences

(Telecompaper) The Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) said twelve foreign companies have submitted bids for two new full-service telecommunication licences. The ECA declared that it has received complete information and expressions of interest from nine international telecom operators and two non-telecom companies.

M1-StarHub, Singtel get 5G licences, name network suppliers

(Telecompaper) Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has granted the consortium formed by M1 and StarHub, as well as Singtel, the final 5G network license awards, following the completion of the required regulatory processes. M1 reports it will start its 5G network rollout across Singapore.
