Oracle expands in telecoms market with Tekelec takeover

(Telecompaper) Oracle is expanding further in the telecoms market with the acquisition of Tekelec for an undisclosed amount. Oracle already offers a range of OSS/BSS platforms for telecom operators, and last month it announced an agreement to take over SBC provider Acme Packet for USD 1.7 billion. It's now buying Tekelec to add network signaling, policy control and subscriber data management systems to its portfolio. Tekelec counts over 300 service providers in over 100 countries as customers. The US-based company's management and over 1,000 employees are expected to move to Oracle after the deal closes. Further details of the takeover were not disclosed.

Mexican lower house approves telecoms bill

(Telecompaper) Mexico's lower house of Congress gave broad approval a major telecommunications reform bill recently introduced by president Enrique Pena Nieto. 414 lawmakers voted in favor of the reform and only 50 opposed, Reuters reports. Lawmakers must still vote on amendments to the bill. The bill is expected to pass Congress before the current session ends at end-April.
