Job description Our customer, EUMETSAT, will be managing the routine mission operations of the Sentinel3 low Earth orbiting spacecraft for the European Copernicus programme. The first Sentinel3 spacecraft is scheduled for launch in September 2015. The aims of the Sentinel3 mission include measurement of seasurface topography, see and landsurface temperature, and ocean and landsurface colour in support of ocean forecasting and environmental monitoring. Responsibilities We are looking for a senior consultant to provide ocean science training and user support consultancy support for the activities mainly related to the ocean activities within the Training and User Support Teams of the User and Climate Services Division at EUMETSAT. In this position you will support the exploitation of the Sentinel3 marine data in respect to a growing community of users, in particular through the provision of information, management of training activities and engagement with user groups in coordination with the entity responsible for the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service. You will be part of the training team and will work with experts across EUMETSAT and partner organisations. The main tasks are Identify and regularly update the relevant user organizations, their fora and possible intermediaries on the Ssentinel3 marine mission and the marine data stream. Provide regular information to users and user groups on the status of the mission and the related marine and ocean products and service. Analyse and handle related user enquiries and user requests received via the EUMETSAT Helpdesk. Review the framework for user communications activities with respect to the Sentinel 3 mission and related marine and ocean products and services. Support the development of the relationships with key users and subject matter experts and facilitate feedback on the quality of the products and services provided. Establish the training requirements, develop and deliver a plan to meet those requirements, evaluate the effectiveness of the training and resources delivered. Identify and engage relevant and skilled subject matter experts to support user training. Maintenance and update of relevant user documentation e.g. user guides, etc Maintain contact with the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service user engagement processes, as required This is a full time position, located at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, and starting in SeptemberOctober 2015, or earlier if possible. Working time is normal office hours. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in a relevant discipline or other suitable qualification together with at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant disciplines. Essential skills are Significant experience of the management of training from needs assessment to evaluation of training for user groups Experience in using satellite data in marine research or operations An ability to relate to user groups and subject matter experts Appreciation of the whole chain from data sensing to user application of a product Experience of maintaining sources of information for users Experience of working in partnership across organisational boundaries fluency in English spoken and written, as English is the working language Desirable skills are Distance learning methodologies A range of Earth Observational data visualisation tools A range of learning technologies learning management systems, web conferencing tools etc Understanding the processes used to retrieve marine geophysical parameters in one or more of elements of the Sentinel product suite French would be an advantage You must be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and be able to work with the minimum of supervision.
