Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Procurement Support Engineer, who will support the procurement of Instrument Data Operational Processors for the Meteosat Third Generation MTG system. The MTG system is conceived to continue and significantly enhance the service offered to the EUMETSAT users via the existing GEO systems. The MTG systems space segment is planned to comprise three satellites positioned in geostationary orbit, two MTGI satellites and one MTGS satellite. The Procurement Support Engineer will be integrated into the MTG Ground Segment Data Processing Team. The overarching tasks will be to support the procurement activities for the MTG L0, L1 and L2 data processing facilities, primarily by developing and consolidating the knowledge needed to acquire the mission data processing functionality and by supporting the technical interface to industrial consortia specifically for scientific related aspects. Responsibilities As Procurement Support Engineer for the MTG Instrument Data Operational Processors, you will support the development, verification validation, onsite delivery, acceptance and warranty of the data processing systems, mainly for scientific aspects of the product processors. In addition, support for ground segment integration and system validation activities may be required. In particular the tasks will include Help procure the processing functionality for L1 and L2 processors of the Sounder instruments IRS and UVN and, to a lesser extend the Imager FCI and LI, throughout the complete procurement lifecycle Follow up the implementations of operational processors support and monitor contractors, organise and participate to progress meetings, formal reviews, technical and interface definition workshops Acquire detailed knowledge on L1 instrument processors algorithms for the Sounder instruments IRS and UVN related to radiometric and spectral calibration, and ensure their correct implementation in the operational software Acquire detailed knowledge on L2 product processors algorithms for the Sounder instruments IRS and UVN related to computation of atmospheric profiling and atmospheric composition, and ensure their correct implementation in the operational software Ensure that a proper knowledge transfer from EUMETSAT to industry is properly implemented. Organise and participate to science workshops support engineer and scientists from industrial consortia by providing clarifications of the algorithms specifications as well as engineering andor scientific support as needed, liaise industrial consortia and EUMETSATs experts for the resolution of technical and scientific issues Interface with the MTG Science Team for all aspects related to the preparation of algorithms definitions and product generation specifications documents Define, develop and maintain L1 and L2 processing functionality requirements and specifications including the product content and format specifications. Monitor evolution of the requirements and the applicability of their versions to procured items Develop and maintain, as well as support procurement of a test tools and software including reference processor software that implements the functionality defined in the processing specifications b test datasets that reflect the functionality defined in the processing specifications Support the verification and validation, deployment, acceptance and warranty of the operational software, specifically for instrument and product processors Any other tasks deemed appropriate by the technical officer in support of the overall aim of the tasks above This is a fulltime position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany with a planned starting date in Q1 2016. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing, you shall have a minimum of five years experience in software engineering for operational processing of satellite or meteorological data. MTGS, the so called sounding satellite, will embark an imaging Fourier interferometer, the InfraRed Sounder IRS, with hyperspectral resolution in the thermal spectral domain, and a high resolution spectrometer the UltravioletVisible Near infrared UVN Instrument provided via ESAs GMES Space Component Programme. The MTG Programme will cover the Phase CD and Phase E activities for EUMETSAT, including contribution to the ESA satellite development programme and procurement of all the recurrent satellites via ESA.
