American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) announced completion of ANSI/ASAE S331.6, Implement Power Take-off Drive Shaft Specifications. This standard establishes categories of universal-joint drive shafts with 2 subsets of telescoping members each: one heavy duty and one regular duty. In addition to updating normative references and terminology, this revision includes categories and test parameters for type-4 power take-offs.

American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) announced completion of ANSI/ASAE S343.4, Terminology for Combines and Grain Harvesting. This revision, which aligns terminology with currently used practices, contains terminology pertinent to grain combine design and performance. It also improves communication among engineers and researchers while providing basis for comparative listing of machine specifications.

ASABE requests input on baling twine standard revision.

ASABE has initiated project to revise ANSI/ASAE S315.4, Agricultural Baling Twine for Automatic Balers. Standard provides uniform polyolefin and sisal agricultural baler twine specifications to ensure satisfactory performance in round and square balers as well as adequate durability in normal storage and handling of baled forage and biomass materials. Revision adds larger packaging size category for large square baler twine and re-wording of description for knotters on large square baler.

American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) requests input on revised draft for new standard: S623, Landscape Plant Water Demand. Newly revised draft addresses comments from previous comment period and aims to help standardize ways in which plant water demands are quantified for landscape purposes. Public comment period, ending June 30, 2015, is open to those with interest and expertise in said subject matter who wish to provide input.

ASABE Revises 3 Standards for PTO operating requirements.

ASABE announced completion of 3 standards projects — adoption of two ISO standards and revision of one ASABE document — related to Type 4 power take-off (PTO) specifications. ANSI/ASABE AD 500-1:2014 consists of adoption with modifications of identically titled ISO 500-1:2014, and ASABE/ISO 500-3:2014 is identical adoption of ISO document of same name. ASAE S207.13 includes Type 4 PTO requirements and such changes as updates to normative references.
