ispace Europe is seeking a highly motivated and talented Systems Engineer to join its team and develop tomorrows lunar exploration technologies. About ispace ispace is a private lunar exploration company whose vision is to expand and sustain humanitys presence in space by utilizing resources available on the Moon. ispace was a Google Lunar XPRIZE finalist and its 4kg SORATO rover won the XPRIZE mobility milestone award. In addition to rovers, ispace is developing lunar landers with two missions already scheduled for launch in 2020 and 2021. ispace Europe is the companys regional office located in Luxembourg, in the heart of Europe. We are developing the next rover missions that will prospect for lunar water and thereby set the first milestone toward lunar ISRU. ispace Europe core engineering competencies are in lunar science, rover navigation, mission planning, data processing, and mission systems engineering. Role Description The Systems Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Mission Systems Engineer in the endtoend definition, development, integration, and operations of ispace Europes lander and rover missions. It is a unique opportunity to design oneofakind planetary systems meant to explore the most challenging environments on the Moon. The position requires a strong candidate exhibiting and practicing all the qualities expected of a skilled systems engineer a crossfunctional mindset, intellectual curiosity, always looking for gaps and means to bridge them, appreciation for process, and an understanding of the system two levels up and two levels down. The candidate must be driven, continuously selfimproving, and proud of herhis work. You will collaborate with ispace engineering experts in Japan, Europe, and the US. We expect you to learn quickly, contribute your own ideas and solutions, and collaborate effectively. We also are looking forward to learning from you about emerging techniques and software that we should adopt to enhance our work. Key Responsibilities Perform system level tradeoffs, coordinating inputs from various disciplines within the team, to evaluate any proposed changes of the design baseline Contribute to requirements management ensuring all requirements are closedout at the planned project landmarks Perform systemsizing simulations and support configuration design studies between instrument providers and rover team in Japan Develop new models and tools for design simulations and budgets Support the creation of complex specifications and interface control documents Work with the business development team to develop outstanding proposals Establish valueadded processes and tools that enable our company to continue to grow efficiently Become conversant with lunar geology, the design of planetary science instruments, ISRU processes, and space policy on space resources Speak up, identify risks and issues, define and manage mitigation plans Travel occasionally to ispace offices and to vendor and instrument provider locations Required Skills and Qualifications Bachelor or Masters degree in an engineering field relevant to this position Practical systems engineering experience in the space industry Must be knowledgeable in processes for spacecraft systems, subsystems and payload design, and assembly test Possess practical experience in one or more of the following avionics or payload electronics, mass spectrometers, telecommunications, electrical power systems, thermal analysis, or integration and testing of aerospace systems Proven record in developing concept of operations, specifications, or procedures Must able to quickly develop subject matter expertise in new subjects Exhibit sound judgment and understanding of systemlevel impact of design choices Be highly organized and capable of planning and executing complex technical work with little oversight Thrive in multidisciplinary environment in close cooperation with engineering and business teams Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Show initiative, ownership, accountability, and positive cando attitude Be comfortable with change and fastpaced environment Preferred Experience Has gone through the iterative process of problem identification, approach definition, analysis andor test, data reduction and interpretation, and communication of results Proficiency in MATLABOctave and MBSE tools e.g. Papyrus, Capella, Cameo, Innoslate

In the execution of the tasks, the Telecommunication Systems Engineer will liaise closely and proactively with the rest of the Programme team as well as with other colleagues within the Telecommunications Technologies, Products and Services Department. In particular as support to the ScyLight Programme Manager the tasks will include Support to preparatory activities in the course of defining and setting up new programme elements and the related programmatic frameworks Support in the creation of information packages to Decision Makers and industrial partners. Support in the creation of internal or external decision documents e.g. proposals to the ESA programme boards throughout the relevant project lifetime. Identification and characterisation of new services and applications. Support to other projects or Directorates of ESA for the definition and operational assessment of applications and services. Support to standardisation activities in specific areas. Monitoring of and reporting about activities in other ARTES Elements or other relevant programmes including EC programmes Initiation, preparation and running promotion activities, like workshops with Industry, other agencies or National Delegation as well as media related activities e.g. webarticles Initiation of andor participation in international working groups Requirements PhD or Msc Engineering from a recognised Institution of secondary studies University, Ecole suprieure, etc. or equivalent. Specific qualification and relevant experience in aerospace or telecommunications. Experience in an international team is required. Candidates should also possess very good interpersonal skills, be wellorganised, proactive, selfmotivated and able to work effectively in a matrix structure. Fluency in English is required, including the ability to draft technical reports.
