Space Systems Product Assurance Engineer

Overall Purpose of the Job Product Assurance to support the delivery of space system hardware programmes and to support the quality requirements of the Space UK business Key Accountabilities The coordination and monitoring of quality control activities relating to space hardware assembly, integration and testing, to ensure that products comply with defined standards and that customer product specifications are met. Provide PA engineering inputs into the full project lifecycle from bid stage through to final delivery and design processes Ensure quality activities are operated in compliance with the procedures contained in the Quality Manual and to ensure their effectiveness Provide regular analytical feedback of information on internal and external nonconforming products to the appropriate departments and to ensure that correctivepreventive action is timely and effective Review and authorise release documentation Take a leading role in review activities test reviews, design reviews etc. Support the development and maintenance of a total quality system, such that the Space UK business unit reaches customer audit expectations Active participation in internal and third party audits Challenges Perform inspections onsite and at thirdparty test facilities Ensure that the inspection methods and practices that are implemented are effective Ensure the inspection status of build and test activities is maintained Liaise with the Configuration Manager, and review and authorise release of items under configuration control Help establish a robust quality operation within the business Person Specification Essential Education, Qualifications and Training Degree qualified or equivalent in engineering or technical sciences Experience in Product Assurance and Quality Assurance, preferably in the space industry The ability to work with minimum supervision, able to work in a multinational environment, work closely in teams and have good written and oral presentations skills Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required Operate and ensure compliance with ESAECSS approved product and quality assurance systems Practical experience of space hardware build and test programmes Knowledge of manufacturing processes and qualification requirements Logical approach to problem solving Essential Personal Qualities and Behavioural Requirements Work closely with the project teams, offering flexibility in work location and hours Problem solving and uses own innovative Good Team worker Effective communicator Tenacious Desirable Criteria Knowledge of ESA ECSS processes and procedures ISO9001 would also be desirable

Tasks and Activities Your primary tasks and activities may include Providing technical support for any development, testing and acceptance of applications and software delivered by the SSA GS team to SWE Segment Providing expert support to the definition of the SWE Segment architectural design as well as space weather related international standards Supporting preparation of work in SWE Segment as a space weather expert Supporting updates to SWE System Requirements Documents Supporting reviews of SSASWE Segment Service Development Roadmaps Supporting preparation of the work specification of new SWE Segment activities as a space weather expert, in coordination with the SWESDC Supporting the definition of SWE data models in the frameworks of all SSA activities Providing support to the SWE Segment Manager for the development and definition of the SSA Workplans Testing and validating deliverables from the activities according to the SOW, proposal and contract Performing the testing and validation of the upgraded services after the implementation of the corrections by industry Interfacing with the SSA GS team where needed regarding the deliveries, validation, testing and operations Providing expert support to tender evaluations Reviewing the monthly reporting by industry and report on any nonconformances Preparing corrective actions for the nonconformances with the industry Liaising with International Bodies as appointed by the SWE Segment Manager Reviewing correction plans for the service related tickets as proposed by the industry Monitoring implementation of the corrective actions by industry Participating SSA programmatic reviews as an expert member as appointed by the SSASWE Segment Manager Performing any other tasks that are needed to consolidate the deliverables from the activity Attending monthly and ad hoc progress meetings with the internalexternal development teams Supporting organisation of SWE Segment public relation events as appointed by the SWE Segment manager Providing a monthly progress report of the progress of the activity Performing any other tasks that are needed to consolidate the deliverables from the activity Providing support for the organisation of SWE Segment related education, outreach and user needs discussion events for the SSA end users as appointed by the SWE Segment manager Interfacing with the Tasking Centre deployment team and SSA IT Group as needed Skills and Experience You must possess the following skills and experience PhD Academic degree or equivalent on space physics, space weather or solar physics At least 5 years of working experience with space weather related topics Practical experience in developing space weather data processing system and producing data products for the end users Experience in working with data models Experience in participating international industry contracts with a clearly defined management responsibility e.g task or workpackage manager Experience in communicating with international partners including space agencies, international entities and scientific community Experience in explaining or lecturing space weather related topics to academic community, students and general public How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level?
