You will have the opportunity to provide software engineering support for the Mission Analysis and Payload Planning System MAPPS. MAPPS is an operational software tool, which is used by the Directorate of Science, in the various SOCs Science Operations Centers of the ESA Solar System missions, located at ESAC European Space Astronomy Center in Spain. MAPPS tool is responsible for generating the required outputs of the Science Planning processes, based on given input data, the mission specific configuration data and any operator inputs, ensuring that the outputs are verified and are guaranteed to be free of conflicts. MAPPS will allow the execution of additional tasks, which can be considered as auxiliary tasks supporting the overall Science Planning processes. This position is based in Madrid, Spain. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Implementation of new MAPPS features as defined by the users of the different Solar System missions, following the priorities set by the MAPPS SRB Software Review Board. Understand and improve the overall architecture of the extensive MAPPS software the team should take ownership of the project. Providing the MAPPS software deliveries following the existing maintenance and release procedures. Improving these procedures where needed, also considering the long lifetime of the software. Verification and validation of the software and execution of the test procedures. Further evolution of the test software, e.g. extending the test cases to cover new features and improving the level of automation. Provide firstline user support, e.g. helping the user configuring and using any new features, analysing potential bugs and providing fixes. Implementation of new MAPPS features, in the area of the Graphical User Interface, and in backend processing software. System and software engineering tasks such as design, development, testing installation, deployment, operations, maintenance with associated documentation according to the ESA software engineering processes. Daily execution of the software development and maintenance tasks, including the monitoring of the progress and the reporting to management. Coordination various development efforts, such that these fit into the overall MAPPS architecture, following the strategy imposed by the MAPPS engineering board. Participation to working groups, workshops, conferences and meetings where might be required. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have a University Degree in the relevant field. You have experience on ESA Science Ground Segment software engineering processes, such as ECSSEST40C and ECSSQST80C standards You have experience in software configuration control processes and tools You have experience in software development under Linux You have experience in a complex software development acting as the technical lead You have the ability to act as a system architect for such a complex software development You have extensive experience with Graphical User Interface GUI programming You have experience with the Qt toolkit or any comparable C based GUI toolkits You have knowledge of spacecraft systems engineering You have experience in modelling and simulation of spacecraft systems You have knowledge of mission planning concepts and processes You have an understanding of the interfaces between the SOC and MOC You have an extensive experience with objectoriented programming You have a recent experience in C for a minimum of at least 4 years The following skills would be highly desirable You have some scientific background.
