Alibaba opg profit falls on option costs, revenues up 28%

(Telecompaper) Alibaba Group reported second-quarter revenues up 28 percent year-on-year to CNY 20.25 billion. The company saw the amount of merchandise sold on its Chinese e-commerce platforms grow by 34 percent year-on-year and 12 percent compared to the first quarter to CNY 673 billion. Purchases over mobile devices grew even faster, more than doubling compared to the same period of 2014 to CNY 371 billion. Monthly active users of its sites were up 63 percent year-on-year to 307 million, and the number of active buyers in the past 12 months rose 32 percent to 367 million. The company increased adjusted EBITDA 23 percent year-on-year to CNY 10.59 billion, but operating profit was down 25 percent to CNY 5.16 billion due to the costs of stock options. Alibaba said that excluding the cost of stock-based compensation, its operating profit would have increased 16 percent in the period. Net profit still more than doubled, to CNY 30.82 billion from CNY 12.44 billion a year ago, due to a one-time gain of CNY 24.73 billion from spinning off its films business Alibaba Pictures.

SigmaTron International reported revenues and earnings for the fiscal year ended April 30 were up over the same period in 2014, although profits declined during that time due to soft market conditions, The electronic manufacturing services company said revenues increased to $230.2 million in fiscal year 2015 from $222.5 million in the prior fiscal year. However, net income decreased to $903,412 in fiscal year 2015 compared to $2.91 million in fiscal year 2014.

Sprint net adds reach 1.2 mln as revenues, profit fall in Q4

(Telecompaper) Sprint announced results for its fiscal fourth quarter, saying net additions lifted to 1.2 million, the highest number in nearly three years, compared to net losses of 383,000 during its fiscal third quarter. Still, total revenues fell 7 percent year-on-year to USD 8.3 billion on the back of lower wireless service revenues. The adjusted EBITDA declined 5 percent to USD 1.7 billion while the operating profit slid to USD 318 million from 420, mainly due to higher depreciation expense. The net loss widened to USD 224 million or USD 0.06 per share, from a loss the year earlier of 151 million or 0.04 per share. Postpaid net additions improved to 211,000 from 30,000 in Q3. The company was net port positive for the first in nearly three years. Postpaid phone losses of 201,000 improved from 205,000 losses in Q3. Postpaid tablet net additions amounted to 349,000 from 189,000. Prepaid net additions amounted to 546,000 compared to 410,000 in Q3. Wholesale net additions went to 492,000 from 527,000. Postpaid ARPU fell to USD 56.94 from 58.90 in Q3. Postpaid churn lifted by 46 basis points sequentially to 1.84 percent, on the back of increasing credit standards, and a better network experience.
DTAC revenues, net profit decline in Q1

(Telecompaper) Thai mobile operator DTAC's total revenues for the first quarter increased by 1.9 percent to THB 22.8 billion, mainly boosted by handset sales and mobile data revenue growth, offset by a decline in voice revenue, the company said. Service revenue decreased 3.6 percent year-on-year to THB 16.7 billion. Handset and starter kit sales rose by 35 percent year-on-year, while voice revenue amounted to THB 7.7 billion, which represents a decrease of 18 percent in the period. Data revenue reached THB 7.4 billion, increasing by 13 percent from the first quarter of 2014.
