Idea Cellular approves capital increase ahead of Vodafone merger

(Telecompaper) Indian operator Idea Cellular has approved plans to raise up to INR 67.5 billion in the sale of new shares, in order to strengthen its capital position ahead of completing its planned merger with Vodafone India. The company will sell INR 32.5 billion in shares to its controlling shareholder the Aditya Birla Group at a small discount of INR 99.5 per share, and sell the remaining shares to institutional investors or through a rights issue. The plans mean ABG will receive a slightly higher stake in the merged group with Vodafone.

Italy fines TIM, Wind Tre, Vodafone and Fastweb EUR 1.16 mln each for 28-day bills

(Telecompaper) Italian communications regulator Agcom has fined the operators Telecom Italia (TIM), Wind Tre, Vodafone and Fastweb a total of EUR 1.16 million each for calculating fixed line invoices on the basis of a 28-day period and overcharging customers over 12 months. In a statement, the watchdog said it had decided to apply the maximum fine provided by law for failure to comply with its order to abolish 28-day fixed-line telephony and convergent bills with a view to "ensuring maximum transparency and comparability of current prices, as well as control of consumption and spending by means of a standard (monthly) unit of reference."

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Group announced the appointment of Stefano Gastaut as Global Director Internet of Things from 01 January 2018. Gastaut comes from Vodafone Egypt, where he has served as CEO since September 2016. Prior to that he was Vodafone CEO Partner Markets. He first joined Vodafone in 2004.
