The Challenge We are looking for software engineer to contribute to a suite of for experimental astronomical software. The successful candidate will support the activities of Termas longterm customer, an international scientific institution based in Munich. The software supports the early stages of the astronomical data life cycle from application handling, to resource scheduling and operation, to data collection, archiving, processing and to distribution. The software engineer will be given responsibility for major components of the data flow, contributing to the entire software lifecycle from requirements analysis to design, coding, testing, deployment, maintenance and documentation. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in July 2014. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have an university degree, preferably in computer science, physics, electrical engineering or other suitable qualification together with at least 3 years experience developing datacentric, Javabased applications. Essential skills are Excellent knowledge of Java Programming Good knowledge of SQL query design performance optimisation Good knowledge of CC programming Basic knowledge of Python programming Solid background in Java web programming using servlet containers such as Tomcat, including clientside programming using xHTML, CSS and Javascript Indepth experience in interfacing Java applications to databases using object relational mappers such as Hibernate Significant experience with the Spring framework and the dependency injection paradigm Very good knowledge of Swingbased GUI programming Significant experience with unit test automation Fluency in English, both in speech and writing is mandatory. Desirable skills are Good knowledge of Grails framework for web development, Groovy and the angular.js Javascript framework Significant experience with the Linux command line and multithreaded programming Experience with the full software lifecycle and associated software quality assurance provisions Experience with software for processing of large volumes of scientific data. The position requires a great deal of independence and selfmotivation. The candidate should be able to work with little supervision, but also be able to contribute to the team effort.
