Rene Zarate was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2001 for a murder at a mobile home park in Storm Lake.

Beautiful and transcendent, Rene Denfeld's The Enchanted (Harper) reminds us of how our humanity connects us all, and how beauty and love exist even amidst the most nightmarish reality.
