Regulators approve rate cut for Piedmont Natural Gas customers

It will be the second cut in as many months in the fuel charges passed on to Piedmont Natural Gas customers in the Carolinas. N.C. regulators on Monday approved a cut in Piedmont Natural Gas' customer fuel charge and a small increase in its charge for upgrading distribution infrastructure, for an overall reduction in rates that starts Feb. 1. The N.C. Utilities Commission approved Piedmont's request to cut the benchmark price it charges N.C. customers for natural gas to $3.25 from $4 per dekatherm.

The latest ruling, by the Dutch consumer protection agency ACM, saw KPN fined a 250,000 and Vodafone a 200,000. KPN was caught for blocking some VoIP services on its free Wi-Fi hotspots, and Vodafone was zero-rating the HBO Go app - that is, it was providing free traffic for that service in particular, a practise technically known as "positive price discrimination".

U.S. safety regulators open probe into new Jeep Cherokees after fire

U.S. safety regulators said on Friday they have opened an investigation into an estimated 50,415 newer Jeep Cherokee SUVs, a key model for the profitability of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, after receiving complaints of engine compartment fires. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it opened the preliminary evaluation into the 2015-model SUVs after a consumer from the San Diego area filed a complaint that their Jeep was "engulfed in flames approximately 20 feet high within seconds of parking the vehicle."
