Duke Energy Corp. says a $25 million fine by North Carolina environmental regulators over coal ash pollution that has been seeping into groundwater for years is excessive and unnecessary. Canadian regulators investigate CN Rail fatal accident

Canada's Transportation Safety Board said on Friday it has launched an investigation into the death of a Canadian National Railway Ltd employee near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on Thursday night. The railway, Canada's largest, has suffered a spate of accidents in recent months, including a derailment of two crude-oil trains in the same area of northern Ontario within three weeks, raising the concern of government officials.

Nuclear plant regulators to discuss Lynchburg review

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public hearing later this month to discuss the results of a safety performance review at the Babcock & Wilcox nuclear fuel fabrication plant. The NRC says its staff assessed the plant from January 2013 through all of 2014 for its safety operations, radiological controls, facility support and special topics.

N.C. regulators approve $45M in bill credits for Piedmont Natural Gas customers
