ZTE returns to profit in Q1, revenues fall 19%

(Telecompaper) ZTE confirmed a return to net profit in the first quarter, at CNY 863 million compared to a loss of CNY 5.4 billion a year earlier. The result was at the low end of its outlook of CNY 0.8-1.2 billion, and ZTE said it expects the result to reach a profit of CNY 1.2-1.8 billion over the first half of 2019, versus a loss of CNY 7.8 billion a year earlier.

China Telecom Q1 revenues fall 0.5% on sharp drop in handset sales

(Telecompaper) China Telecom reported a small decrease of 0.5 percent in first-quarter revenues, to CNY 91.53 billion, hurt by a sharp fall in handset sales. EBITDA increased 14.1 percent to CNY 30.24 billion, helped by the new accounting standards and lower operating costs, and net profit rose 4.5 percent to CNY 5.96 billion.

Facebook revenues lift 26% in Q1 but profit hit by legal expenses

(Telecompaper) Facebook continued its upward rise in the first quarter, with revenues advancing 26 percent from the year before to USD 15.077 billion. Advertising revenue made up the bulk of the total, and was also up 26 percent, to USD 14.912 billion. Mobile advertising revenue made up 93 percent of that figure, from 91 percent the year earlier.

Microsoft grows quarterly profits 20% as Azure revenues jump 73%

(Telecompaper) Microsoft reported another strong quarter of results driven by its cloud business. Revenue for the fiscal third quarter to March rose 14 percent to USD 30.6 billion, and operating profit was up 25 percent to USD 10.3 billion. Net profit increased 19 percent to USD 8.8 billion, and the EPS rose 20 percent to USD 1.14.

Dutch TV market falls 0.3% to 7.45 mln connections, revenues up 1.8% in 2018

(Telecompaper) The number of TV connections in Dutch households fell by 25,000, or about 0.3 percent, in 2018, to 7.454 million, according to the latest Telecompaper report about the Dutch TV market. In 2017, the decrease had been around 10,000 connections. By contrast, revenues from TV services increased in the past year, by 1.8 percent to EUR 1.872 billion. This was partly because of price increases at KPN, Delta, Caiway and Ziggo.
