Poly accelerates cost synergies plan as revenues fall short in Q2

(Telecompaper) Poly, the company formed from Plantronics and Polycom, reported revenues for its fiscal first quarter to June of USD 448 million, double the USD 221 million a year earlier thanks to the takeover of Polycom. The figure was below the company's guidance, prompting Poly to accelerate its plans to realise cost savings from the merger.

Sony captured 30% of VR hardware revenues in 2018

Strategy Analytics' data on the VR headset market shows a decline in annual hardware revenues for the first time. The decline is confined to the low value segment however. The forecast shows continued growth in the Console and PC-tethered VR segments.

Telecom Italia revenues improve to 0.4% fall in Q2 on Brazil gains, rising ARPU

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) reported a 0.4 percent year-on-year decline in second quarter revenues to EUR 4.5 billion on a comparable basis, an improvement on falls of 2.5 percent and 2.9 percent in the previous two quarters, helped by a 2.4 percent rise in service revenues at its TIM Brasil unit that partly offset a 1.2 percent decrease at its domestic unit. The company's EBITDA was EUR 1.9 billion in the second quarter, down 2.6 percent on an organic basis, though the margin inched up 0.6 percentage points to 42.2 percent thanks to cost containment initiatives.

SK Telecom's Q2 revenues up 7% as mobile returns to growth

(Telecompaper) SK Telecom launched its 5G services on 3 April, and reached 530,000 5G subscribers at 30 June. The operator expects the number of 5G subscribers to surpass 2 million this year.

Verizon revenues dip lower in Q2 on lower handset, wireline sales

(Telecompaper) Verizon reported a 0.4 percent fall in second-quarter revenues to USD 32.1 billion, hurt by lower handset sales and wireline service revenue. The US operator said it still expects low single-digit growth over the full year and reported improved customer growth at its mobile business.
