Software Systems Engineer Bristol 40k60k A professional engineering and consultancy services company to spacecraft operators and spacecraft primes is actively seeking a Software Systems Engineer. Tasks The Space Division seeks a versatile, knowledgeable and experienced senior software or systems engineer for its spacecraft ground segment activities. The successful candidate will become part of the successful Ground Segment operations group with the responsibility for supporting the overall specification, design, deployment and acceptance of spacecraft ground software systems. The first assignment involves performing a customer facing onsite role for the Galileo mission and will interface with all levels of the project from the end customers, users and subcontractors. The role involves Taking responsibility for key elements of the system, implemented and delivered by a subcontractor Maintaining the requirements baseline for those elements Ensuring design and implementation meet the requirements Analysispreparation of change requests and processing of subcontractor change responses Review of documentation datapacks including, design, test plans, test reports, user manuals etc. Attendance of acceptance campaigns both at the subcontractor site and end user sites Analysis and disposition of Software Problem Reports Technical support to provide input to customer documentationdatapacks Interfacing with the customer and users to discuss problems and changes as needed Essential skills The successful candidate will have a software engineering background and be able to demonstrate a thorough systems engineering approach from requirements through design and verification of delivered and accepted systems. The project standards must be adhered to and therefore an understanding of good software standards are required and an ability to work within project guidelines. The role will be customer facing, so the candidate must be fluent in English and confident in their role representing the company and interfacing with the customer and operators. Desirable skills Software engineering background on large scalecomplex projects Experienced in softwaresystem design including architecture and interface design Experience in requirements specification and management Experience with formal verification processes Understanding of Product Assurance and adherence to project standards Linux systems Having prior experience of the Galileo mission is not a prerequisite for this position but can be an advantage. This 2 year mission with SES Techcom will primarily involve the establishment of a conceptual approach to the design of constellations for satellitebased ADSB. The satellitebased ADSB system targets the reception of aircraft ADSB messages from space to offer continuous visibility on the air traffic over the globe. The role includes complex issue resolution, coordinating information requests from other departments, and working with external parties such as air navigation service providers and third party vendors to ensure a positive customer experience. This role also includes responsibility for defining and analysing concepts and solutions linked to space based ADSB technology by focussing on the data captured from the deployed ADSB space receiver. Responsibilities Perform system engineering analyses including trade studies, use case development, requirements definition and derivation, interface definition, and requirement validation and verification Provide expertise in space communication principles, concept of operations CONOPS Support definition of operations concepts and procedure planning development, interfacing with personnel from other organizations Evaluating applications employing cutting edge technology and advanced concepts on a wide variety of spacecraft and ground systems Conceptual design of innovative satellite networks andor network elements and development of associated specifications Awareness and evaluation of relevant technological developments, market trends, competitive factors, customer requirements, standardisation licensing and regulatory aspects in the aviation domain Travel as required to meet customers, partners and vendors and attend exhibitions, conferences, working group meetings Experience Qualifications Have a university degree Telecommunications, Systems Engineering, or equivalent Have min 5 years of applicable professional experiences in engineering and implementing of telecommunications systems Experience with satellite hardware RD or related technologies Knowledge of concept of operations, satellite commanding and controlling, and data processing techniques Systems engineering experience on satellite to ground communication means Experience with LEO satellite development, construction, launch, andor operations Provide effective communication workflow of information Successful customer and partner relationships. Experience in radioradar communication with aircraft ADSB ModeS transmission and air traffic management knowledge will be an asset.
